About the role
* Responsible for delivering the health, safety, and environmental risk strategy as set by the Head of Safety & Risk.
* Implementing ISO certified safety and environmental management systems.
* Serving as the Subject Matter Expert on Health and Safety, Environmental risk, and Safety Culture for Smiths News, including all road transport and operational yard safety at Smiths News and third-party locations.
* Owning the company's health and safety policies, training, and audit regimes, ensuring suitable arrangements are in place and managed.
* Delivering Human Factors and Safety Culture Awareness programs in conjunction with the Head of Safety and Risk to promote positive behaviors and a just safety culture.
* Building positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders interested in safety and legal compliance (e.g., HSE, DVSA, Local Authorities, Trade Bodies).
* Ensuring thorough investigation of incidents and accidents by trained colleagues, escalating as necessary, and liaising with external stakeholders such as emergency services and media.

About you
* At least Nebosh Level 3 or equivalent qualification
* Experience with ISO 45001 and integrated systems
* Auditing qualifications and experience
* Environmental Risk qualifications
* Extensive Accident Investigation experience, including root cause analysis
* Strong communication skills, both oral and written, with the ability to negotiate and influence at senior levels
* A valid UK driving license (company car may be provided)
