An opportunity has become available for an experienced individual to join and work in collaboration with the team of Band 7 Sisters/ Charge Nurses/ Principal ODPs. The successful candidate will need to possess a wide-ranging clinical background and be able to demonstrate effective management skills.
This role is a 9-month secondment opportunity and will have responsibility for managing the ENT/Head and Neck (H&N) theatres within Guys Main Theatres (GMT).
In this role, you will provide support to the GMT Scrub team and oversee a range of clinical and non-clinical responsibilities. GMT comprises 14 operating theatres carrying out a complex variety of surgical operations. The clinical area also supports a surgical admissions lounge and post-operative recovery.
The post holder will work in both a clinical and service development capacity to ensure the service to patients is planned, delivered, and evaluated in line with evidence-based practice. You will work closely with the multidisciplinary team to help create and maintain a robust service while seamlessly incorporating other centre services.

Main duties of the job
You will need to be proactive, self-motivated, have very strong interpersonal skills, and a vision for service improvement. You will be expected to actively support, coordinate and assist in the management and delivery of high-quality care to patients during the Peri-operative phase of their care.
You will be expected to support Guys Main Theatres, Recovery and SAL in conjunction with the existing Band 7 team and work generically overseeing a twin operating theatres suite. You will be joining an existing skilled senior team where you will contribute to the management

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
1. Lead the ward/department team and build successful links between key professionals to support and promote effective multi-disciplinary team working.
2. Manage the department nursing /ODP staff, ensuring the patients receive high quality clinical care and a good patient experience, having regard for their customs, religious beliefs and doctrines.
3. Be wholly accountable for his / her practice in line with the NMC code of professional conduct and takes every reasonable opportunity to sustain and improve his / her knowledge and professional competence.
4. Communicate effectively and efficiently and liaise with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to ensure that patients receive seamless care within the trust.
5. Act as a professional nurse leader and role model to the staff. To apply clinical skills of the highest standard and to take a proactive approach to the development of clinical competence in self and others.
6. Maximise use of clinical resources, implementing best practice in patient flow, admission and discharge arrangements.
7. Monitor monthly budget statements, identifying trends, understanding spending patterns in order to stay in budget and to take action as required.
8. Comply with the Trust’s standing financial instructions.
9. Ensure that the departments have adequate resources / equipment to provide an effective service.
10. Develop and maintain effective channels of communication between all members of the multi disciplinary team.
11. Identify and intervene where circumstances contribute to an unsafe environment for patients and staff. To bring instances to the attention of the Matron / Head of Nursing for the area.
12. Lead and support the ward team through the process of change, demonstrating tenacity, drive, professional integrity, balance and perspective.
13. Be responsible for assessing and recognising emergencies in the speciality. To interpret information and take appropriate action and to lead others to do the same.
14. Motivate, develop, support and identify training needs for department staff.
15. Implement and work within the Trust’s HR policies on all staffing matters, including sickness, capability and disciplinary issues. Take corrective measures if indicated in liaison with Human Resources and the Matron.

16. RN1/ RN2/ RN12 on the NMC register or Operating Department Practitioner on HCPC Registered.
17. Healthcare or management/leadership degree or Masters degree or equivalent qualification/training and experience
18. Evidence of ongoing professional development in relevant area of speciality supplemented by specialist clinical, managerial training and CPD Mentorship course
19. Management qualification or equivalent experience
