Balfour Beatty has an exciting opportunity for an Employment Tax Assistant Manager to join our growing team in Newcastle
What you'll be doing
* Responsible for supporting CIS and employment tax reporting, taking ownership of the end-to-end CIS return process, ensuring submissions, return corrections, HMRC ledger reconciliations and HMRC payments are accurate and made on time.
* Act as the primary Employment Tax contact for CIS-related matters.
* Advise on ad-hoc business queries, applying employment tax legislation and HMRC guidance to practical scenarios including IR35 Status Decisions (with support from Head of Employment Tax and Employment Tax Manager).
* Support the Employment Tax Manager with the preparation of PAYE Settlement Agreement, including data review, validation, and reconciliation.
* Use data and technology to improve accuracy, efficiency and controls within employment tax processes.
* Contribute to reducing the risk of penalties, interest and reputational impact arising from non-compliance across all employment tax areas.
* Maintain appropriate documentation, controls and audit trails to support tax governance.
* Build effective working relationships across Finance, Payroll, HR and Shared Services to enable compliant outcomes.
Who we're looking for
* Experience or exposure to UK employment tax and/or CIS.
* Ability to work independently with appropriate support, managing priorities and knowing when to elevate issues.
* Strong stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence without formal authority.
* Confidence working with data and strong attention to detail.
* Experience with Alteryx and the Microsoft Power Suite would be beneficial; however, these skills can be developed in the role and are not a prerequisite.
* Clear and effective communication skills.
* Willingness to learn and develop technical knowledge with support from senior Employment Tax colleagues.
* Support for professional exams is available where appropriate.
