Role Overview
Technical Publications Author – Courseware Designer within Thales UK’s Through-life Support Engineering (TSE) team. Responsible for delivering Technical Publications and Authoring activities to customers according to specifications and internal processes.

What will you deliver?
* Make technical publications/authoring decisions within own sphere of responsibility and delegated authority.
* Fulfil operating, maintenance, and support requirements agreed with the customer, ensuring clear, unambiguous documentation suitable to the skill level of users and maintainers.
* Maintain close liaison with engineering, researching and originating new or amended textual data for a wide range of equipment and maintenance activities.
* Compile data to a variety of national/international and civil/military specifications and produce physical and electronic deliverables.
* Provide help and direction to less experienced team members.
* Manage own elements of technical publications/authoring work package.
* Contribute to team planning, risk management, quality and HSE.
* Set targets for and manage own development with line manager, sharing good practice and knowledge to continuously improve own practices.
* Manage work packages and supervise/coach apprentices.
Who are we looking for?
Essential
1. Experience in technical authoring.
2. Strong proficiency with standard Microsoft Office and authoring tools.
3. Excellent written and spoken English.
4. Engineering knowledge/experience.
5. Good understanding of engineering standards and processes.
6. Ability to translate technical information into easily understood text.
7. Supervisor experience.
8. Knowledge of engineering product lifecycle.
9. Technical authoring in an engineering environment.
10. Writing in a structured environment (e.g., XML with S1000D, DITA, Common Source Database).
Desirable
1. Basic Logistic Support Analysis (LSA).
2. Basic technical illustration.
3. Support to bids.
4. Estimating skills.
5. Risk and opportunity management.
6. Work package management.
Security Clearance
The successful candidate will need full Security Clearance (SC). In line with Thales’ baseline security requirements candidates will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK and employment and education history for up to three years.
