Technical Bid Manager
Location: Fareham, Hampshire
Salary: £50,000 – £56,000 per annum
We are looking for a Technical Bid Manager to lead the quotation process from initial enquiry through to final submission. This is a key role within a busy manufacturing and engineering environment, responsible for ensuring bids are accurate, commercially sound, and delivered on time.
About the role
You will take ownership of the full bid and quotation process, reviewing technical data packs, drawings, bills of materials, specifications, and customer requirements to establish scope and identify risk. You will develop accurate material and labour costings, coordinate workload across the team, and work closely with engineering, procurement, operations, and commercial colleagues to ensure quotations are both technically robust and commercially aligned.
Key responsibilities
Manage the full quotation and bid process from enquiry to submission.
Coordinate and prioritise team workload across costing and quote preparation.
Review drawings, specifications, BOMs, and technical data packs.
Build accurate cost models covering materials, labour, subcontract processes, and associated costs.
Liaise with engineering, procurement, operations, and commercial teams.
Identify and escalate technical, commercial, and operational risks.
Ensure quotes are completed to customer and internal deadlines.
Support pricing strategies that protect competitiveness and margin.
Maintain clear and auditable quotation records and supporting documentation.
Drive continual improvement in bidding methods, response quality, and workload planning.
Provide leadership and direction to the estimating/quotations team.
Support internal bid review and approval processes.What we are looking for
Experience in a technical bidding, estimating, quotations, or proposals role within manufacturing or engineering.
Strong understanding of material costing, labour costing, and pricing principles.
Ability to read and interpret technical drawings, specifications, and customer data packs.
Commercial awareness with the ability to balance customer and business needs.
Strong organisational skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities.
Experience leading or coordinating team workload.
Excellent communication skills and a collaborative approach.
High attention to detail and strong analytical ability.
Competent with ERP systems, costing tools, and Microsoft Excel.
Right to work in the UK without visa sponsorshipDesirable experience
Background in electronics, engineering, or contract manufacturing.
Knowledge of subcontract processes, supply chain costing, and production methods.
Previous people management or team leadership experience.
