THE OPPORTUNITY – CONTROL ROOM OPERATOR (PRODUCTION TECHNICIAN), BARROW
This role sits within a team of production technicians and requires the flexibility and competence to operate as a Control Room Operator and Area Authority.
Emphasis is placed on the planning of work and control of activities during each daily shift, and the handover between shifts must be comprehensive and thorough. While the job holder will work closely with the Production Team Lead to ensure effective liaison across the team, they must be capable of operating without supervision on routine activities

Monday and Tuesday days, Wednesday and Thursday nights, then 5 days off
Wednesday and Thursday days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights, then 4 days off
Friday, Saturday and Sunday days, Monday and Tuesday nights then 5 days off
Each shift is 12 hours.
AND NOW FOR THE TECHNICAL BIT…
In role, you will be accountable for:
Operating high pressure gas production/processing plant and utilities equipment in accordance with procedures, utilising both on-plant and control room equipment, monitoring performance through control systems and regular on-site patrol, recording performance data and providing appropriate reports.
Undertaking safe and environmentally responsible operations, performing ancillary activities to maintain continuity, ensuring product quality and achievement of gas production schedules. Each facility at Barrow comprises a complex and diverse range of high-pressure process plant, utilities and equipment that operates on a 24-hour day/7 days a week basis through a rotating shift system.
Reporting to the Production Team Lead, with emphasis on the analytical aspect of how the process operates, sampling and analysing feedstocks, products, effluent and other process materials which is performed in the laboratory using a variety of scientific apparatus, then producing reports.
Supporting the Production Team Lead in drawing up Permits to Work and in preparing plant for planned and defect maintenance, ensuring safe working conditions for such activity and controlling the return of plant to service.
Identifying and reporting plant/equipment defects and operating abnormalities, raising and progressing work order defects through the system.
Performing first line maintenance and remedial tasks, maintaining appropriate records
Analysing plant performance data to ensure the plant is performing at optimum efficiency, producing reports and recommendations on the findings.
Monitoring stock levels of chemicals, spares and consumables to ensure continuity of production capability and extracts process material samples and undertaking analysis to monitor product quality and to ensure that effluent discharges meet specified standards, taking corrective actions as appropriate.
Control Room Operator responsibilities:
Directs a team of production technicians in the field, maintaining plant stability and safe operation to achieve production targets.
Operates and monitors the plant and safety critical equipment to control within operating parameters, and to maintain safe operation of the terminal, taking guidance from the PTL. This will require competence and experience to be maintained in using a DCS system and ESD/F&G systems.
Responsible for applying approved overrides and inhibits, ensuring any applied/removed are recorded correctly and that the correct level of authorisation has been followed.
Plays a key role in emergency response and attend training as required to maintain competence in an emergency role.
ABOUT YOU
To be successful in this role you will have:
Demonstrable experience in petrochemical process operations, with an inherent understanding of the hazards associated with operating in this environment to ensure ongoing integrity of health, safety and environmental performance
Good communication and organisational skills
Qualifications/Training:
Minimum BTEC Ordinary Certificate or equivalent in an engineering discipline
Ensure control room competencies are proactively maintained to ensure competent status
