Role Purpose To support the delivery of high-quality accounting, tax, and compliance services to a diverse portfolio of small business and private clients. The Semi-Senior Accountant plays a key role in preparing accounts, assisting with tax compliance, liaising with clients, and contributing to the smooth running of the practice. Key Reponsibilities 1. Accounts Preparation Prepare year-end statutory accounts for limited companies, partnerships, and sole traders in accordance with UK GAAP and FRS 102/FRS 105. Complete working papers, lead schedules, and reconciliations to support file reviews. Identify areas requiring partner or senior input and flag queries proactively. Assist in preparing management accounts and financial reports for clients as required. 2. Tax Compliance Request and obtain information from clients. Prepare corporation tax computations and returns (CT600) using Iris tax software. Assist with personal tax return (SA100) preparation using Iris personal tax and review. Ensure deadlines are met for VAT returns, P11ds and other HMRC submissions. Support senior staff in reviewing and verifying tax computations and client records. 3. Bookkeeping & VAT Process client bookkeeping using cloud software (e.g. Xero, QuickBooks, Sage). Reconcile bank accounts, control accounts, etc. Prepare and submit VAT returns under standard and flat rate schemes, ensuring MTD compliance. 4. Client Communication & Relationship Management Act as the first point of contact for day-to-day client queries. Build strong relationships through clear communication, reliability, and professionalism. Liaise with HMRC and other authorities as needed. Support onboarding of new clients and ensure client records are up to date. 5. Practice & Workflow Support Manage workload effectively to meet internal deadlines and budgets. Keep workflow management systems updated. Contribute to continuous improvement in internal processes and compliance standards. Support juniors or trainees where appropriate, reviewing basic work and providing feedback. 6. Professional Development Continue with ACCA qualifications, if part qualified Maintain CPD requirements in line with ACCA expectations. Stay updated with changes in accounting and tax legislation using online resources, such as Croner i, etc. Participate in team training, development sessions, and office meetings. Key Skills and Attributes Strong double-entry and reconciliation skills. Competent in using softwares such as Xero, QuickBooks, Sage, Iris, etc. Good understanding of UK GAAP, Companies Act, and tax compliance basics. Excellent attention to detail and organisational skills. Clear written and verbal communication. Positive attitude, team player, and proactive problem-solver. Typical Qualifications and Experience Part-qualified ACCA (or equivalent), or qualified by experience. 24 years experience in a UK accountancy practice. Experience in preparing year-end accounts and tax returns for SMEs and individuals.
