An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Oncology and Haematology Directorate for a Service Manager position.
The Churchill Hospital provides expert care for the Thames Valley for common tumour types, and for a wider region for rarer indications. The Oncology and Haematology Directorate covers several core services which are:
· Oncology - including an Oncology ward, teenage and young adult unit and Radiotherapy department with linear accelerators
· Haematology - including a Haematology ward, Bone Marrow Transplant service and patient hotel
· Oncology and Haematology also share a -bedded emergency triage service, two chemotherapy day treatment units (Oxford and Banbury) and an ambulatory unit
· Palliative Care - which includes day services, a hospital team and a community palliative care service, all provided in conjunction with Sobell House Hospice Charity
· The directorate also hosts a number of Trust wide services including Radiation Physics and Protection, Clinical Measurement and Clinical Engineering
· The department has close links with the University of Oxford, and Cancer Research UK, and is a base for world-leading research in the field, so that patients have rapid access to a wide range of new treatments
The O&H directorate is one of the largest in the trust with an annual turnover of £m and around WTE staff.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will be responsible for the overall Service management of the Oncology service within the Oncology and Haematology Directorate.
In conjunction with the Directorate Manager (DM), Clinical Lead (CL) and Matron/Deputy Matron the post holder will work across organisational boundaries to ensure appropriate services are in place and to deliver national and local strategic and operational service objective’s and standards.
The Service Manager is responsible for working with the DM to ensure the efficient and effective day-to-day running of the Oncology Service. The aims of the role are the delivery of this new and innovative service, quality, Cancer performance targets, RTT standards, financial plans, service improvements, data analysis and line managing appropriate staff within designated clinical unit.
As part of the Oncology and Haematology (O&H) Directorate leadership team the post-holder will develop and implement Directorate plans to secure the agreed objectives for the O&H Directorate and make a positive contribution to delivery of health care across the local health community.
