The Chief Medical Officer is a critical member of the Trust Board and Executive Team.
Responsibilities
* Shape progressive strategies for professional practice and the voice of medics across the Trust.
* Provide strategic leadership in clinical governance and Quality Improvement alongside the Executive Director of Allied Health Professions, Psychological Professions & Social Work and Chief Nurse.
* Develop and manage all aspects of the medical profession within NELFT.
* Continuously improve staff wellbeing, fostering an inclusive and empowered work environment.
Qualifications
* Qualified medical practitioner with senior experience at or close to Board level.
* Experience leading multi‑professional groups and realizing transformative potential across professions.
* Strong track record of developing new roles and innovative ways of working in a large, complex organisation.
* Champion for a compassionate, fair and just culture, supporting diversity, equality, inclusion and human rights.

Probationary Period
This post will be subject to a probationary period.
Starting with Us
New starters will join the Trust on the first Monday of each month and undertake a comprehensive induction of up to two weeks, including mandatory training, systems training and equipment allocation. They will also have the opportunity to meet the executive team, senior managers, and attend drop‑in sessions focusing on engagement, health and wellbeing, and key processes. The induction is held at our head office in Rainham, Essex.
High Cost Area Supplement – Outer London
This post also attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 15% of the basic salary (minimum £4,313–£5,436 p.a. pro rata for part time).
High Cost Area Supplement – Fringe
This post also attracts a High Cost Area Supplement of 5% of the basic salary (minimum £1,192–£2,011 p.a. pro rata for part time).
