Job overview

An exciting opportunity has arisen within the Paediatric Unit at The James Cook University Hospital to employ a Support Worker. The role within Ward 22 is to support the nursing team in providing direct patient care to children and young people. The role also involves some administrative work.

We care for children from birth until 18 years requiring surgical or trauma admissions. We care for children from numerous specialities and a family centred approach to care is essential.

We are a team committed to delivering and maintaining high quality patient care and are looking to attract a Health Care Assistant who shares our goal. In return we will support ongoing professional development and provide regular training opportunities.

1. Band 3 requirements - Numeracy and Literacy Level 2 or GCSE equivalent (A-C/ 4-9)
2. Care certificate
3. Level 3 vocational qualification or Short courses and completion of competency workbook equivalent to Level 3 in a range of patient and clinical care duties and/or Equivalent knowledge and experience in a range of clinical care duties equivalent to Level 3;

- Theoretical knowledge

- Experience of a range of care and related procedures

- clinical observations

- knowledge of relevant legislation

Main duties of the job

Experience in health care is preferred, with experience working with children and young people desirable. Applicants must demonstrate effective communication skills, be enthusiastic, well motivated and share a commitment to team working.

Knowledge and Skills

Essential criteria

4. Excellent interpersonal, communication and active listening skills. Ability to adopt appropriate styles and methods of communication.
5. Insight into behaviours and skills of a carer and the need for effective team work
6. Time-keeping, planning and prioritisation skills.
7. Understanding work-related boundaries.
8. Awareness of GDPR and the need Familiarity with current NHS and social care policies. Working knowledge of STHFT policies and procedures. All will be assessed through application and Interview 7 for confidentiality

Qualifications and Training
