Are you an experienced, empathetic, and resilient Teaching Assistant looking to make a real, lasting difference in a child's life?
Empowering Learning are working with a primary school in Hartlepool and are looking for an outstanding 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a primary-aged pupil with behaviours that challenge, in a welcoming and inclusive school. This is a full-time, long-term position that requires dedication, emotional intelligence, and a trauma-informed approach to behaviour.
About You: The Ideal Candidate Will Have
* Proven experience supporting children in a primary school setting, particularly those with SEMH (Social, Emotional and Mental Health) needs or behavioural difficulties
* A solid understanding of trauma-informed practice and how early adverse experiences can impact behaviour and learning
* A calm, patient and nurturing approach, with the ability to de-escalate situations and build trust
* Confidence working with individual behaviour plans, risk assessments and positive handling techniques (Team Teach or similar training is a bonus)
* Strong communication skills - able to liaise effectively with class teachers, SENCOs, parents/carers, and external agencies
* A genuine passion for supporting children to reach their potential, no matter the challenges they face
Key Responsibilities:
* Provide 1:1 support to a primary-aged child, acting as a consistent and trusted adult throughout the school day
* Support the child in accessing learning both inside and outside the classroom, adapting activities where necessary
* Promote positive behaviour and emotional regulation through consistent routines, boundaries, and reinforcement
* Deliver targeted interventions to support social skills, emotional literacy, and self-esteem
* Observe and record behaviours, progress, and incidents accurately, feeding back to the SENCO and wider pastoral team
* Work collaboratively with the class teacher and specialist staff to implement a bespoke support plan tailored to the child's needs
* Encourage independence, resilience, and emotional wellbeing through a personalised and trauma-informed approach
Requirements:
* Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to obtain one)
* At least 6 months of relevant experience working with children with challenging behaviour or SEMH
* Relevant qualifications or training (e.g., CACHE, Team Teach, MAPA, safeguarding) are highly desirable
If you're a compassionate and skilled TA who thrives in a role that's as rewarding as it is challenging, we'd love to hear from you!
