Are you the kind of engineer who prefers testing hardware in the real world rather than just simulating it on a screen? Do you enjoy pushing materials, systems, and designs to their limits?
We’re working with a pioneering engineering team building next generation hardware designed to survive and operate in some of the harshest environments, this role sits at the heart of developing technology that must perform flawlessly when failure simply isn’t an option. As Lead Mechanical Engineer, you’ll take technical ownership of ruggedised hardware systems designed for extreme climates. You’ll lead the design, testing, and deployment of equipment engineered to withstand severe cold, mechanical stress, and remote operation.
What you’ll be doing
* Lead the design, development, and deployment of cold-hardened hardware systems from concept through to field-ready products
* Engineer solutions that maintain reliability under extreme thermal and mechanical stress
* Drive key decisions around materials, sealing strategies, structural design, and joinery for harsh environments
* Work alongside test engineers to conduct cold chamber testing and durability validation in sub-zero conditions
* Collaborate with electrical, software, RF, systems, and GIS teams to integrate complex multi-disciplinary platforms
* Establish and maintain quality and reliability standards to ensure systems perform in the harshest conditions
What they’re looking for
* 7+ years of industry experience developing hardware for demanding or extreme environments
* Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering with a strong portfolio of real-world hardware development
* Advanced proficiency in 3D CAD (Siemens NX, SolidWorks, or similar PDM-managed environments)
* Experience taking products from concept through to production, with strong knowledge of DfMA
* Hands-on experience building, prototyping, and testing hardware alongside multidisciplinary engineering teams
* A practical mindset with the ability to translate theory into robust, field-ready engineering solutions
