Job Summary We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Intensive Night Support Worker specialising in positive behaviour management. In this role, you will work closely with individuals who may experience emotional distress or have diverse communication and support needs, playing a key role in achieving person-centred and positive outcomes. You will recognise behaviour as a form of communication and apply Positive Behaviour Support (PBS) and trauma-informed approaches to provide effective support. The role requires strong emotional and psychological resilience, enabling you to remain calm and respond appropriately during difficult or emotionally charged situations. The successful candidate will work overnight shifts in a supported living setting, ensuring the safety, wellbeing, and dignity of the people living there. Experience in working in a positive behaviour setting is essential. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of vulnerable individuals while working within a supportive team. Hours: 12-hour waking night shifts on a Rota basis, covering a 24-hour support service across 7 days a week. This position is initially for 40 hours per week (4 x 10hr shifts) with a view to this being increased to 48 hours per week (4 x 12hr shifts) when funding is secured. Key Responsibilites Build trusting relationships with the people you support, respecting their choices, dignity, and individuality. Deliver responsive, person-centred support in line with individual plans, including PBS strategies. Carry out regular welfare checks and ensure a calm, safe environment overnight. Support with bedtime/overnight/morning routines such as personal care, meals, medication, and household tasks, always promoting independence. Recognise and respond to distress or behavioural communication with empathy and skill, using de-escalation techniques and PBS. Monitor and accurately record overnight observations and incidents using agreed systems. Prepare and maintain the environment for the following day (domestic tasks where needed). Respond effectively to any emergencies during night shifts. Work collaboratively with daytime colleagues, healthcare professionals, and family members to ensure consistent support. Contribute to the development and review of support plans, risk assessments, and PBS strategies. Promote safeguarding, dignity, inclusion, respect, and emotional safety at all times. Participate in ongoing training and reflective practice to maintain high standards of care. Skills & Experience Experience supporting people with learning disabilities and individuals who may communicate through behaviour or experience emotional distress (2 years preferred). Strong emotional resilience and ability to stay calm in pressured situations. Strong communication skills able to listen actively, speak clearly, and write clear, accurate records. A person-led approach, with patience, empathy, and attention to detail. Ability to build trusting relationships with the people you support, colleagues, and external partners. Organised, motivated, reliable and confident working independently overnight with minimal supervision. Flexibility to work 12hr night shifts, including weekends, and bank holidays. Understanding of Positive Behaviour Support and trauma-informed de-escalation techniques. Awareness of safeguarding, mental capacity, and health & safety principles. Experience working in inclusive, values-led environments. Night shift experience desirable. Benefits Paid training and access to a wide variety of vocational learning and development opportunities. Supportive, values-led culture. Opportunity to develop your career in social care. 28 days full time equivalent holidays each year, including bank holidays. Eligible Workers We are unable to offer sponsorship for this position. Therefore, applicants must already have an existing and valid right to work in the UK. We cannot consider applications from candidates who would require sponsorship from The Mayfield Trust, now or in the future. We reserve the right to interview and appoint for all positions before the closing date.
