Allen Lane are delighted to be supporting a housing association on their recruitment for an interim Housing/Disrepair Solicitor. The ideal candidate will be a qualified Solicitor with a practising certificate in England & Wales, experience working on housing disrepair cases and managing a team of Litigation Paralegals.
Responsibilities:
* Lead on the development and dissemination of best practice in disrepair case management.
* Provide legal advice and supervision to legal caseworkers, paralegals and housing teams on all aspects of housing disrepair law, including relevant environmental health matters.
* Review cases, advising on strengths, risks, quantum, and settlement terms, ensuring adherence to pre-action protocols, applicable legal requirements and policies.
* Instruct external solicitors and barristers as required, or liaise directly with defence solicitors to negotiate settlements.
* Support and guide paralegals to ensure procedural compliance, cost-effectiveness, and customer-focused solutions.
* Deliver training sessions and produce written guidance and templates to improve organisational understanding of disrepair issues.
* Maintain up-to-date knowledge of legislative changes and case law affecting housing disrepair, and brief the business accordingly.
* Hybrid arrangements - at least three days a week in an office. On other days, working from home may be possible, depending on the work and the interaction required.
Essentials:
* Qualified Solicitor or Barrister with current practising certificate (England & Wales) of at least 2 years post qualification experience in housing and disrepair law.
* In-depth knowledge of housing disrepair legislation, relevant case law, and pre-action protocols as well as a proven track record of resolving disrepair claims cost-effectively, including negotiation and litigation.
* Experience advising on contentious litigation ideally in housing management matters, including disrepair.
