As a Senior Project Controller you will be responsible for effective control of a complex, multi-million pound programme(s) within our Defence portfolio, ensuring programmes run to time and cost to deliver value to customers. You will lead the development, maintenance, execution and control of project performance baselines within a robust project controls environment and be an important member of the PMO, helping to embed and drive project management best practice within the Portfolio.
Our UK Defence business is a Sovereign software and systems centre of excellence. We develop UK-wide and internationally deployed multi-domain command and control systems that support the modern backbone of the Royal Navy.
Responsibilities
* Ensure that customer and business processes are effectively and efficiently adhered to across the project team environment, with a dedication to continuous improvement and enhancement of current project controls methodologies.
* Apply Earned Value Management System (EVMS) performance standards, preferably to ANSI or APM standards.
* Advanced practical application of Primavera P6, Deltek COBRA cost management system, and company ERP systems.
* Lead, facilitate and plan cross-functional workshops, including schedule development, control, and analysis at the programme and account level.
* Build and maintain performance measurement baselines with well-defined scope, assumptions, deliverables, Cost and Work Breakdown Structures and integrated schedule that is resource loaded and risk-enabled.
* Lead and support cost management activities including cost estimating, cost control, change management, cost analysis, accruals, invoicing and expense management and development of accurate Estimate At Completion.
* Deliver reporting that defines project status against the baseline, explains deviations, and assists with corrective actions.
* Assist in proposals and change management reviews; review and incorporate historical data; maintain working documents and data; coach and mentor team members; and communicate effectively with stakeholders at all levels.
* Act as a point of project controls subject matter expert within a major programme or account.
Qualifications and Requirements
* Significant, demonstrable Project Controls, Planning and/or Cost Management experience in defence or a regulated industry, managing controls through the full lifecycle.
* Aware of commercial operations and/or prime contract experience, ideally in a SSRO QSC/CAAS reporting environment.
* Understanding of project management and project business context; experience with EVMS processes within an EVM system.
* Advanced user of Oracle Primavera P6; experience with cost management and finance systems.
* Strong ability to maintain project-wide adherence to processes and procedures, sometimes in challenging circumstances.
* Experience training and mentoring within a team; excellent written and verbal communication skills; ability to collaborate with internal and external stakeholders; persuasive when needed.
* Professional qualifications in project management or control disciplines and/or membership of a related professional organisation (e.g., MAPM, ChPP, PMP).
* Security clearance: SC UK (UK eyes only – single UK Nationality) or ability to gain.
