This growing business is seeking a talented Financial Controller to join a dynamic team and play a crucial role in managing and improving their financial operations.
Job Summary:
The Financial Controller will be responsible for overseeing the financial operations of the company, ensuring accuracy in financial reporting, and driving financial performance. This role requires a proactive and strategic thinker. Ideally, they will have a good understanding of the construction and residential housebuilding sectors.
Key Responsibilities
1. Coordinate the production of and provide first-line review of the monthly management accounts in accordance with the month-end timetable.
2. Provide explanations for significant variances to budget and discuss remedial actions.
3. Embed control account reconciliation processes, ensuring each month’s closing trial balance is supported with a suite of balance sheet reconciliations.
4. Lead budgeting and reforecasting processes, ensuring alignment with strategic goals.
5. Conduct in-depth financial analysis to support business decisions and strategic initiatives on an ad-hoc basis.
6. Ensure compliance with UK financial regulations, accounting standards (UK GAAP/IFRS), and company policies.
7. Provide monthly reconciliation of plot income movements, investigate adverse movements, and secure satisfactory explanations.
8. Liaise with external auditors to ensure accurate and compliant financial reporting.
9. Develop and maintain robust internal controls to safeguard assets and ensure the integrity of financial information.
10. Monitor departmental resource levels, supervise and mentor the finance team, and promote a culture of high performance and continuous improvement.
11. Oversee the implementation and maintenance of financial systems (COINS) and software to improve financial processes.
12. Produce draft content for monthly debriefs with the Group and Divisional FDs, and quarterly debriefs with the Regional MD.
Qualifications
1. Qualified finance professional (ACA, ACCA, CIMA, or equivalent).
2. Commitment to accuracy and a diligent approach to accounts production.
3. At least 5-7 years of experience in a financial management role, preferably within the UK construction or residential housebuilding industry.
4. Strong knowledge of UK financial regulations, accounting principles, and reporting standards.
5. Experience in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
6. Excellent leadership and team management skills.
7. Experience with COINS is advantageous.
8. Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities.
9. Strong communication and presentation skills.
