Boeing Defence UK, located near MOD Abbey Wood in Bristol, is integral to the South West's defence aerospace ecosystem. BDUK’s total workforce is distributed across 18 key sites in the UK and often co-located with customers. Our defence workforce of more than 2,100 people in the United Kingdom solve current and emerging defence and security challenges and deliver sustainment, training and support services for the British armed forces.

About the job

Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) System Safety and Environmental Engineering Team is seeking a new System Safety Engineer to join our collaborative environment, which is dedicated to ensuring the safety of complex systems. As a BDUK System Safety Engineer, you will play a key role in supporting our sustainment programmes for UK defence, applying rigorous safety engineering tasks to Boeing products and services that are critical to our national security. This role is for a detail-oriented professional who excels at developing robust safety arguments and thrives on technical challenges.

In this role, you will:

1. Utilise industry-leading tools and techniques for system safety and hazard analysis to define safety requirements that meet demanding regulatory standards.
2. Collaborate with cross-functional teams and external stakeholders to manage safety throughout the product and service lifecycle.
3. Develop robust safety arguments and draft safety cases for assurance and certification activities using Goal Structuring Notation (GSN) or Claims Argument Evidence (CAE).

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):

4. Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology (including Manufacturing Technology), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry or non-US equivalent qualifications directly related to the work statement
5. A background in a safety-critical and regulated environment (e.g., aerospace, defence, rail, automotive).
6. Sound knowledge of common safety standards (e.g., Def Stan 00-056, MIL-STD-882E).
7. UK National status is required, and candidates must be eligible for SC clearance.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

8. Training in the use of formal safety analysis methods Functional Hazard Assessment (FHA), Fault Tree Analysis (FTA) and Bowtie analysis.
9. The ability to plan and execute tasks to achieve timescales and costs.
10. Good interpersonal skills to ensure effective team working and an appropriate working relationship with external customers.
11. Proficiency in the use of general office IT tools, such as MS Word, Excel, and Powerpoint.
12. Strong technical communication skills.
