Job Title: IT Specialist
Work Hours Per Week: 37.5
Salary (Per Hour): £20.79 - £29.19
As Information Technology (IT) Specialist for the 423rd Force Support Squadron (FSS), you will be responsible for the strategic planning and management of our complete IT landscape. This includes overseeing all network architecture, infrastructure, and mission-critical systems. You will develop and implement IT policies and standards while managing the FSS NET, Non-Appropriated Funds (NAF) business, commercial, and base networks. Your role will be crucial in providing systems administration, security, and customer support for all application software and operating systems. You will develop and implement key IT policies, including Information Assurance and COMSEC, while managing systems and personnel. You will conduct technical analyses and develop software scripts to ensure the continuous and efficient operation of all FSS IT systems. Additionally, you will represent the squadron across various organizations and serve as the primary Web Page Designer for the Squadron.
Responsibilities
* Provide systems administration, security, and customer support for all application software and operating systems.
* Develop and implement IT policies and standards; manage IT policies including Information Assurance and COMSEC.
* Conduct technical analyses and develop software scripts to ensure continuous and efficient operation of all FSS IT systems.
* Represent the squadron across various organizations and serve as the primary Web Page Designer for the Squadron.
Qualifications
1. COMPTIA Security+ certification in addition to one year's specialized experience in the key skills listed below, and be able to perform the duties of the role.
2. Key Skills:
1. Proficient in web design, coding, and maintenance using programming languages like Visual Basic and ASP.NET, with database management in Microsoft SQL and Access.
2. Expert in managing network hardware and architecture (firewalls, routers, servers, LAN); skilled in installing, testing, configuring, and maintaining diverse computer systems, hardware, and software; able to provide training and guidance to users.
3. Adept at using diagnostic methods to identify and resolve complex hardware, software, and network failures; restore operations and train users on new systems and security practices.
4. Knowledgeable in information system security, network configuration, encryption, and familiarity with retail POS systems and PCI standards.
5. Skilled in researching and procuring IT equipment and software; conduct market research and present findings to management.
6. Self-motivated and able to work independently across responsible areas; define problems and communicate solutions effectively.

Conditions of Employment
1. You will be required to handle and safeguard sensitive information in accordance with applicable US and UK laws, rules and regulations.
2. You may be required to travel by military and/or civilian aircraft, and travel to the US or other country in performance of official duties or training.
3. This position may also be coded as mission essential.
4. You will be required to complete a 6-month probationary period.
5. Hours of work: 37.5 hours weekly. Fixed schedule: Mon-Fri 0800-1630; start & end times may be modified due to mission needs and flexible working policies.
6. Overtime may be required; you may be assigned other duties not included in this description, appropriate to the grade and skill set.
7. You must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
8. You must obtain and maintain the appropriate security clearance.
9. You will manage the Telephone Control program in accordance with Air Force Instruction and local policies.
10. You will be required to have a COMPTIA Security+ certification.
11. You will use Visual Basic.NET, C#, and C++ to program and develop web pages.
12. Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment; IA work is a paramount duty. You must achieve the IA certification within six months of assignment; failure to obtain may result in removal from this position.
13. You will work on various software and systems.
14. You will budget for IT hardware and software and determine sources for purchases, applying procurement procedures per funding source.
15. The work requires you to drive a motor vehicle. A valid UK Driver's License (Category B) is required.
16. Duties are performed at RAF Alconbury and RAF Molesworth, as required.
