Overview
This is an opportunity to join the Built Environment Team, a team that is committed to finding creative but feasible solutions for the public sector, centred on the unlocking and bringing forward of challenging and complex-built environment projects. The Built Environment Team has a number of Local Authority and private sector clients appointed to deliver projects with a range of outputs, including residential, commercial, retail and leisure uses including infrastructure and public realm. The team is expanding across Manchester and Leeds offices to support growth of the service line. We are seeking a Development Manager to support the delivery of projects in a fast paced dynamic environment delivering multi-million pound developments. The ideal candidate would be energetic, committed and willing to support the wider team to complete identified work streams within a wider work programme. Strong communication skills and an organized approach to delivery of tasks, with the ability to work independently and think creatively, are essential.
Responsibilities
* Assist with the development and implementation of individual regeneration projects and initiatives and their integration within wider regeneration strategies.
* Develop and maintain effective working relationships with stakeholders and partners such as Local Authorities and other key parties (e.g., TfGM, Department for Transport, Network Rail, Homes England).
* Coordinate multi-disciplinary teams (internal and external), including preparation of required scopes of services and management of procurement processes.
* Create and execute project work plans and prepare information and reports for meetings with various audiences.
* Ensure project setup in line with internal Gleeds OA requirements.
* Monitor project budgets, assist with bids for services across opportunities, and support the wider Built Environment Team business development strategy.
* Review and analyse other technical inputs pertinent to the project.
* Assist in the development of reports to committees, business cases, external funding bids and Project Initiation Documents.
* Communicate information, project updates and expectations to team members and stakeholders in a timely and clear fashion, including engaging presentations.
* Deliver high quality services and deliverables in accordance with business procedures.
* Develop a professional network to maintain a high profile for Gleeds and generate new business.
Qualifications and Experience
* A relevant degree qualification or equivalent (or >5 years of suitable experience within a similar role).
* Experience in a project role such as employer’s representative, project manager or project team member.
* Understanding of regeneration issues and related policy fields in physical development, regeneration and project delivery.
* Understanding of the development process: planning, development appraisals, policy context, funding and legal aspects of delivering development.
* Experience engaging with key stakeholders such as the public, local Councillors, property owners, investors and grant funders.
* Knowledge of commissioning external consultants and contractors and an understanding of public procurement regulations.
* Understand basic budget monitoring involved in project development and delivery; knowledge of Local Authority processes is desirable but not essential.
Demonstrable skills
* Critical thinking and problem solving, planning, organising and time management, decision-making, and clear communication (oral and written).
* Good organisational skills, adaptability, and the ability to work as part of a team; able to influence, negotiate and manage risk.
* Competent ICT skills with proficiency in MS Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
Qualifications
* BSc Degree or equivalent.
* Undertaking to attain professional membership if not already achieved – RICS, CIOB or APM or equivalent standard.
