The opportunity
Expanded Structures, a division of Laing O'Rourke specializing in reinforced concrete basement, substructure, and superstructure frame construction, is recruiting a Senior Quantity Surveyor.
We are the construction partner for National Grid's Great Grid Partnership, supporting infrastructure projects beyond 2030, including overhead lines, underground cabling, and substation upgrades.
Role Responsibilities
* Perform all senior quantity surveying duties including measurement, valuation, and work section agreements.
* Manage interim payment applications and certifications.
* Draft, manage, and settle subcontracts.
* Oversee monthly cost management and reporting.
* Prepare and settle claims and final accounts.
* Manage trainees, assistant QS, and QS team members.
* Negotiate with clients, subcontractors, and consultants to achieve project goals while maintaining relationships.
* Advise on contractual and commercial risks and implications.
* Prepare contractual and financial reports and inputs for project planning.
* Assist in establishing the project budget from contract award.
* Identify, manage, and implement change control processes.
* Ensure proper execution of contract documents before project start.
* Communicate clearly and confidently to a professional standard.
* Report any issues or risks that could affect the project or business.
Skills & Experience
* Experience with structural projects is desirable.
* Degree in Quantity Surveying, Civil Engineering, Construction Management, or related field.
* Knowledge of cost management and subcontracting.
* Interest in learning about risk and opportunity management.
* Motivated to learn and progress to the next career level.
