The role is set in a prison environment, offering a range of graded therapeutic interventions to support service users in emotional regulation, self‑maintenance, productivity and leisure across wellbeing, substance misuse, and mental health services.
Main duties of the job
The post holder will work as part of a multi‑disciplinary team, taking responsibility for care coordination of service users with highly complex and multiple needs. Activities include assessment, intervention, risk assessment, and contribution to service development. The Occupational Therapist will also work autonomously within the team, providing clinical supervision where required.
Job responsibilities
* Lead the development, implementation and evaluation of group work to meet identified mental health and substance misuse needs.
* Take responsibility for a clinical caseload, managing priorities for clients with highly complex and multiple needs in a restrictive environment.
* Carry out comprehensive assessments using specialist standardized tools and multi‑agency collaboration.
* Act as Care Co‑ordinator for selected clients, contributing to the delivery of CPA multi‑disciplinary care plans.
* Develop and negotiate Occupational Therapy treatment programmes, demonstrating advanced clinical reasoning and communication skills.
* Recommend suitable adaptations to enable activities of daily living and organise implementation and maintenance of these adaptations.
* Implement, evaluate, analyse and adjust treatment programmes according to individual needs, employing encouragement, motivation, negotiation, reassurance and training.
Qualifications
* Registered Occupational Therapist
* Evidence of recent CPD and postgraduate qualification or equivalent
* Relevant training or qualification in associated fields such as CBT, CFT, Sensory Integration, Motivational Interviewing, Brief Solution Focused Therapy, or Mapping techniques (ITEP/BTEI)
Experience
* Considerable experience working in the mental health field
* Experience providing specialist interventions for those with mental health problems, including counselling techniques, CBT, CFT, Sensory Integration, and Motivational Interviewing
* Experience providing supervision and line management of staff
