Senior Conservation Officer (Housing Benefits & Planning)

Salary: £ £21.57 per hour (PAYE)
Contract: 3 Months
Hours: 21.75 Hours per Week (3 Days per Week – Flexible and Negotiable)
Work Pattern: Hybrid – Office-based in Coalville with regular site visits
Seven Resourcing is currently recruiting for a Senior Conservation Officer to join a local authority team in Coalville on a 3-month contract. This is a part-time opportunity offering flexibility on working days, with a requirement to attend the Council Offices and undertake site visits ideally once per week (flexibility to once every two weeks may be considered).
Candidates should ideally live within approximately one hour's commute of Coalville to support site-based responsibilities.
The Role
As Senior Conservation Officer, you will provide specialist conservation advice across planning and related housing matters, ensuring the protection and enhancement of the historic environment.
You will play a key role in assessing planning applications affecting listed buildings and conservation areas, advising on heritage-led regeneration, and supporting the delivery of high-quality development that preserves local character.
Key Responsibilities
Provide expert conservation advice on planning applications, listed building consent, and development proposals
Assess the impact of proposals on heritage assets and conservation areas
Undertake site visits to evaluate historic buildings and development sites
Support enforcement and compliance matters relating to heritage and conservation
Contribute to the development and review of conservation policies and guidance
Liaise with planning officers, applicants, architects, and external stakeholders
Prepare written reports and professional recommendations
Support housing-related projects where heritage considerations are relevant
Essential Requirements
Proven experience working in conservation within a planning or local authority environment
Strong knowledge of heritage legislation, planning policy, and conservation principles
Experience assessing planning applications affecting listed buildings and conservation areas
Ability to produce clear, well-reasoned written reports
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
Ability to undertake site visits and travel within the district
Desirable
Relevant qualification in Conservation, Heritage Management, Planning, Architecture, or a related discipline
Membership of a relevant professional body (e.g., IHBC or similar)
