Don’t miss this opportunity to join the team in Ward 7 in the Borders General Hospital! We are an acute surgical ward with 31 beds, covering General Surgery, Gynaecology and Urology. We are seeking a motivated and adaptable Registered Nurse who would like to be part of a friendly and supportive team with an ethos of continuous improvement. The postholder must be a confident decision maker, be able to work without direct supervision and supervise registered and/or unregistered staff, as well as student nurses.
You will be part of a multi-disciplinary team and have responsibility for the assessment of needs and the delivery of high‑quality person‑centred care. You will also work with other health professionals within the team, patients and families to co‑ordinate complex discharges.
The role requires you to have full UK NMC registration and be flexible and able to work days and nights on the ward to meet the needs of a 24/7 service. Please note we cannot offer sponsorship for this post.
Responsibilities
* Provide direct patient care and collaborate with multi-disciplinary team members.
* Assess patient needs and deliver person‑centred care.
* Co‑coordinate complex discharges with patients, families, and other health professionals.
* Supervise registered, unregistered staff and student nurses.
* Work flexible hours across days and nights in a 24/7 service.
Requirements
* Full UK NMC registration.

* Experience supervising registered and unregistered staff and student nurses.

Legal and Working Status
As part of the pre‑employment checks for a preferred candidate, NHS Scotland Boards will check your entitlement to work in the UK. You can provide evidence such as a visa, EU settled or pre‑settled status, etc. If the post is assessed as a regulated role, a Protecting Vulnerable Groups (PVG) criminal records check will be required.
As from 1st April 2026 the Agenda for Change full‑time working week will be reducing from 37 to 36 hours per week. Part‑time hours will be reduced pro‑rata. However, there will be a corresponding increase in the hourly rate so that pay will not be affected.
