This full-time, permanent position has a starting salary of £47,142 per annum based on a 36-hour working week.

About the Role
As a Senior Transport Planner you will shape the places where people live, work and travel, helping to grow the local economy and protect the environment.
You will work with big data, GIS, transport models and Power BI to provide clear, evidence-based insights that inform decision‑making and drive positive change.
Working closely with colleagues across Transport Policy, Scheme Design, Network and Asset Management, Road Safety, Passenger Transport and Planning, you will be in a highly collaborative environment where your ideas are valued from day one.
Responsibilities
* Lead and advise on transport planning projects from problem identification through to scheme appraisal and business case development
* Use modelling and assessment tools (e.g. junction modelling, microsimulation, strategic modelling, pedestrian assessments, Active Mode Appraisal Toolkit)
* Analyse and present transport and movement data to support consultations, funding bids and strategic planning
* Review and audit third‑party transport assessments and modelling
* Support Local Planning Authorities with evidence for spatial strategies
* Contribute to scheme design applying relevant guidance (e.g. DMRB, Local Transport Notes)
* Mentor and line‑manage colleagues, including supporting Graduate Transport Planners and Modellers on the Professional Development Programme
Qualifications
* At least 5 years’ experience in transport planning, including recent use of VISUM and VISSIM
* Strong understanding of TAG and NPPF requirements
* Proven ability to analyse data, appraise schemes and prepare high‑quality reports and evidence
* Active membership of a relevant professional body
* Confidence working independently and collaboratively in an office environment
