The role
Administrator (Fixed-Term Contract until 31st October 2026)

Location: The Open University – Hybrid Working (2–3 days per week on campus: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday) Milton Keynes MK7 6AA
Hours: Full-time, 37 hours per week (8:30am–4:30pm or 9:00am–5:00pm)
Contract: Temporary until 31st October 2026

The Open University is seeking an experienced and highly organised Administrator to join its postgraduate student support team. This is an excellent opportunity for an administrative professional who thrives in a busy, process-driven environment and takes pride in delivering a high-quality service to students and stakeholders.

Working within a team supporting PhD students, you will be responsible for managing a range of administrative processes, ensuring compliance with university regulations and maintaining accurate records. The role requires excellent attention to detail, strong written communication skills and the ability to handle sensitive information with professionalism and discretion.

Key Responsibilities
Reviewing and processing student documentation, ensuring compliance with university regulations and procedures.
Checking forms and paperwork for accuracy and completeness, identifying and escalating any errors or discrepancies.
Supporting student induction processes, including preparing and issuing correspondence and documentation.
Acting as a point of contact for applicants and students, responding to enquiries via email mostly and sometimes in person.
Maintaining accurate student records and databases.
Following established procedures and guidance documents to ensure consistency and compliance.
Supporting administrative activities relating to postgraduate research students.
Handling confidential and sensitive information in line with university policies.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will have:
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written.
A minimum of 2–3 years' administrative experience within a busy office environment.
Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a high volume of work accurately and efficiently.
Exceptional attention to detail and a methodical approach to administration.
The ability to work independently, use initiative and solve problems proactively.
Experience handling confidential information and maintaining data accuracy.
Good IT skills, including Microsoft Teams, SharePoint and Microsoft Excel.
The ability to build positive working relationships and work effectively as part of a team.
A commitment to personal and professional development and to the values of The Open University.
You must be local to Milton Keynes and able to commute onsite to MK7 6AA on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursdays.
Desirable Experience
Previous experience working within a higher education environment.
Experience supporting students or student-facing services.
Knowledge of UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) regulations and processes.
