Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust is expanding its pool of bank workers by recruiting Registered Nurses & Senior Nurses to work within the Prison service on a flexible basis.
Oxleas NHS Foundation Trust were awarded the South West prison contract in 2022 and currently have a portfolio of 19 prisons across the South of England. Our healthcare team promotes health and well-being to those in prison and delivers Mental Health, Physical Health, Pharmacy and Clinical Substance Misuse in an integrated healthcare delivery model to improve wellbeing and support better outcomes in the future.
Please note: We are recruiting ad-hoc bank workers with no guaranteed or frequent shifts; shifts will be on an ad-hoc basis.
Banding: We are looking for registered nurses at band 5 or 6; banding discussed at interview based on experience. To work as a bank-only worker you will need to have completed preceptorship training or obtained 6 months post-qualification experience.
Main duties of the job
Registered Nurse
* Deliver high quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison, including acute and primary care, long term conditions management, enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services and health promotion activities.
* Plan and reach complex and critical judgements with a high degree of autonomy; demonstrate robust expert clinical skills and evidence-based nursing practice.
* Deliver a pro-active, quality and outcome-driven approach on a day-to-day basis.
* Manage a complex clinical caseload and contribute to maintaining clinical standards.
Senior Nurse
* Provide high quality primary care services and specialist interventions for offenders within a nurse-led integrated primary care model.
* Maintain effective case management to ensure continuity of treatment and care pathways while detained in prison.
* Deliver clinics and consultations in a timely, clinically effective way; promote health and prevent disease in prison settings.
* Work collaboratively with the Clinical Lead, GPs and other clinicians; deputise for the Team Manager as required.
* Ensure patient-centred care planning tools, long-term condition registers and consistent delivery across prisons; maintain safety and quality standards.

Job responsibilities
Registered Nurse Duties:
* To support the delivery of an effective integrated healthcare service clinical model.
* To manage a complex clinical caseload.
* To support the development, implementation and maintenance of the National Standards for Health Care in Prisons for the service.
* Ensure all clinics and consultations are delivered in a clinically effective and timely way, in line with service needs.
Senior Nurse Duties:
* Autonomy to plan and reach complex judgments with sound decision-making skills.
* Deliver high quality clinical care within the Integrated Healthcare Service for the prison, including acute & primary care, long-term conditions management, enhanced assessment and diagnostic intervention services, and health promotion; aligned with NHS Plan and NSFs.
* Demonstrate robust clinical skills and evidence-based practice; promote research as appropriate.
* Participate in supervision and appraisal; support junior staff and ensure ongoing professional development.
* Promote patient-centred care planning, long-term condition registers and consistent service delivery across prisons.
* Collaborate with Clinical Lead, GPs and other clinicians; deputise for the Team Manager as required.
* Work in a challenging environment while maintaining health and safety standards.
* Ensure compliance with Trust policies, Prison Standards, Standing Orders and related material.

National Security Vetting: All applicants must be willing to undertake National Security Vetting to work in a prison setting as part of pre-employment checks.
What you will need to provide:
* Proof of right to work documentation
* Proof of ID (one photographic ID)
* Proof of address
* Non-UK passport holders must have correct documentation (right to work) and a Home Office share code
* Address history for 5 years
* Police Certificate in English if required (for non-UK passport holders with less than 5 years UK address history)
* For UK passport holders who have lived abroad recently, a certificate of good conduct or overseas police check in English

Qualifications and experience
Qualifications (Essential):
* Registered NMC qualification (Band 5/6)
* Postgraduate qualification or equivalent experience (Band 6)
Experience (Essential):
* Experience setting, monitoring and evaluating standards of care (Band 5/6)
* Minimum two years’ experience at Band 5 (Band 6)
* Experience of multi-professional collaboration and working with statutory/voluntary organisations
* Working knowledge of prison/offender healthcare issues
Desirable:
* Previous prison/secure experience
