Lead Theatre Practitioner – The Chiltern Hospital
Job type: Full-time, 37.5 hours per week, permanent. Salary up to £50,000 per year (depending on experience, training and qualification). Must be able to travel to sister site, The Shelburne Hospital, High Wycombe.
Duties of this role
* Lead the delivery of high‑quality, patient‑centred care across the perioperative pathway, acting as a specialist or functional lead within the team.
* Ensure all patient safety checks, including WHO surgical safety processes, are carried out in accordance with hospital policy.
* Provide day‑to‑day leadership and supervision for theatre practitioners and support staff, fostering a culture of professionalism, compassion and accountability.
* Act as an advocate for patients, ensuring their rights, safety and dignity are upheld at all times.
* Apply all relevant legislation, policies and procedures to theatre operations, ensuring adherence to professional and regulatory standards.
* Work collaboratively with anaesthetists, surgeons, recovery staff and wider hospital teams to ensure effective patient flow and continuity of care.
Applicants should meet the following criteria
* NMC or HCPC registered practitioner with significant experience in a theatre environment (e.g. scrub, recovery, or anaesthetics).
* Demonstrated clinical leadership experience and ability to act as a role model to peers.
* Strong understanding of patient safety protocols, safeguarding, infection control and clinical governance.
* Scrub Practitioner or Surgical First Assistant qualification (for scrub leads).
* ENB 998 and/or mentorship course.
* Approved / recognised anaesthetic course.
* ILS.
* Excellent communication, organisation and mentoring skills.
* Commitment to personal development and supporting the development of others.
* Experience in major orthopaedics is desired.
