Community Support Worker — Supported Independent Living
Casual role • $23.50 - $29.10 per hour
Pukekohe and Drury, South Auckland

Do you believe that hobbies build confidence, community creates belonging, and everyone deserves a life filled with purpose? Spectrum Care is looking for energetic, compassionate individuals to join our Supported Independent Living team — helping people with disabilities live ordinary, extraordinary lives.

About Supported Independent Living

Supported Independent Living (SIL) is all about empowering adults with physical and intellectual disabilities to live in their own homes and be active members of their communities. We provide tailored, one-on-one support that helps people build routines, develop life skills, and pursue personal goals — whether that\'s joining a local club, finding meaningful work, or simply enjoying a hobby.

Support is offered across a range of hours (6am-9pm, Monday to Sunday), and is shaped by each person\'s unique needs, interests, and aspirations.

The Role

As a Community Support Worker, you\'ll provide one-on-one support to adults with physical and intellectual disabilities in their homes and communities. Your work will be dynamic and person-led, shaped by each individual\'s goals, interests, and aspirations. We are looking for motivated and supportive team members to join our Supported Independent Living service. This role focuses on empowering more independent adults who want to:

* Live in their own flat
* Develop life and work skills
* Find and keep a job
* Build friendships and community connections
* Grow their confidence and independence

Your role is to walk alongside people as they take the next step toward the life they choose.

What You’ll Be Doing

* Support people to build independence in practical, empowering ways, including:
* Developing routines for living confidently on their own
* Supporting job readiness—CV building, interview practice, transport planning, workplace skills
* Helping to search for work or volunteer opportunities
* Encouraging social engagement and helping with making new friends
* Supporting decision-making and problem-solving
* Assisting with budgeting, planning meals, and managing a healthy home environment
* Building confidence in navigating community activities, groups, and hobbies

This role is all about coaching, encouraging, and supporting—not doing things for people, but helping them do things for themselves.

You\'ll Help People

* Explore hobbies and passions — from music and art to sports and animals
* Build daily routines that support independence and wellbeing
* Connect with local clubs, community spaces, and interest groups
* Discover volunteering, education, or employment opportunities
* Strengthen social confidence and relationships
* Navigate everyday tasks like personal care, household chores, and community outings

Support hours range between 6am and 9pm, Monday to Sunday, with some flexibility to suit both staff and the people we support.

Who You Are

You bring creativity, empathy, and a genuine love for people. You might be into:

* Art, Music, Dog walking, Sports, Gardening, Gaming, Baking — or anything else that sparks joy and connection
* Organised and reliable
* Patient and calm in all situations
* A great communicator with families, colleagues, and the people you support
* Comfortable with personal care and daily living support
* Passionate about inclusion, empowerment, and community engagement

What You\'ll Need

* A full NZ driver\'s licence - or actively working towards one
* Excellent verbal and written English
* Ability to pass a NZ police check
* Basic computer skills (Word, email, internet)
* Willingness to learn — we\'ll support you to gain a Level 3 qualification in Community Support Work
* Required to attend a 2 week paid induction to prepare you for the role

Experience with disability, mental health, or behaviours that challenge is helpful but not essential. What matters most is your ability to connect, uplift, and inspire.

Requirements

If you are a non-resident applying for this role you must meet the following INZ Level 3 skill requirements to be considered:

* Have worked in the care workforce for 3 years or more, and been paid at least the care workforce wage rate during that time, or
* A relevant qualification on the New Zealand Qualifications and Credentials Framework (NZQCF) — this must be at least a level 4 qualification for a role at skill level 3, or a diploma for a role at skill level 2.

The Spectrum Group is dedicated to fostering a diverse and inclusive workforce that reflects the communities we serve. We actively encourage and support applications from individuals with diverse backgrounds, including those with disabilities, neurodivergent individuals.

If you\'re ready to help others build lives full of creativity, connection, and confidence — we\'d love to hear from you.

Apply today and be part of something truly meaningful.

Spectrum Care is proudly an equal opportunity employer.
