Your Mission:
As a Principal Radiation Physicist, you will play a pivotal role in our innovative team. Here’s what you’ll be doing:
* Supervising and conducting analysis and experiments to support system qualification.
* Driving the progression of design optimization.
* Producing and reviewing radiological safety justifications for proposed design solutions.
* Leading the development of in-house toolsets to meet departmental goals.
* Leading detailed shield design, balancing build requirements with system performance needs.
Your Skills and Experiences:
Essential:
* A relevant STEM degree in Physics, Mathematics, Chemistry, or Nuclear Engineering.
* Proven experience with radiation transport codes such as MCNP, MCBEND, or Attilla.
* A solid understanding of radiation physics.
* Experience in radiation safety studies and behaviors.
* Knowledge of radiation metrology.
* Familiarity with the ALARP principle.
Desirable:
* Experience in managing technical projects.

About the Radiation Physics & Shielding Team:
Our team is at the forefront of designing and validating radiation shielding for the UK’s nuclear-powered submarine fleet. We engage across various submarine programs, contributing to:
* Designing new shields.
* Providing design change assessments.
* Conducting radiation metrology on-board during commissioning.
We also conduct radiological safety studies, design novel radiation detectors, and develop capabilities in radiation damage to electronics. Relocation support packages are available for eligible candidates.
