The Senior Healthcare support worker (SHCSW) is a member of the direct care team who supports practitioners to meet patient needs. The SHCSW is responsible for providing care and therapy to patients as delegated by the Registered Nurse or appropriate team leader.
A SHCSW will be expected to undertake a range of duties under the direction of and will be required to report back on those delegated duties to a Registered Nurse.
The SHCSW will be competent to provide compassionate care to agreed quality standards. The HCSW role will continue to develop through the development of further skills, knowledge and competencies that will be determined within the clinical nursing team through ongoing assessment and the needs of the ward/service to deliver patient care.
To assist in the day to day running of our busy Gynaecology outpatients department. Assisting in a variety of clinics, including hysteroscopy, reproductive medicine, two week wait clinics, gynaecology oncology clinics, young persons clinics, general gynaecology clinics, endometriosis clinics, pre-operative assessment clinics. The SHCSW's role within these clinics include taking height and weight measurements, obtaining blood pressure readings, perform ECG examinations, provide assistance to nurses and doctors within clinic acting as a chaperone and advocate for the patient. Supporting staff in examinations providing the correct equipment and following procedures and guidelines.
Once trained and deemed competent, independently undertake patient assessment within early pregnancy clinic to deliver high standards of care.
