This post is based within Housing Advice and Homeless Services. You will offer advice and assistance to clients who are homeless or are threatened with homelessness and will assist in meeting the Council’s statutory obligations in terms of homelessness legislation; aim to prevent homelessness where possible and to give our clients a package of housing options to resolve their housing difficulty. You will also identify and participate in the provision of housing support to homeless clients and will liaise and work with all relevant agencies to assist and support clients through this process.

It is essential you have relevant experience in dealing with the public; working with various ICT packages e.g. Microsoft Office; letter and report writing and liaising with internal and external agencies; a working knowledge of homelessness legislation and the Code of Guidance on homelessness and be able to demonstrate a knowledge and awareness of issues related to Public and Private Sector Housing. You must have effective communication skills; the ability to work under pressure and deal sympathetically with clients in stressful situations; be able to organise your own workload and make effective decisions when required.

Experience of collating and preparing statistical information; knowledge of Housing (Scotland) Act, 1988; Matrimonial Homes (Family Protection) (Scotland) Act, 1981 and an awareness of other housing related legislation would be desirable.

Normal hours of duty are 35 hours per week to be worked as directed between Monday to Sunday, 8.00am – 8.00pm. You must be able to participate in “Out of Hours” stand-by rota as required.

A full current driving licence is desirable.
