Medicines Optimisation Team – Tameside, Greater Manchester
As part of the Greater Manchester Integrated Care Partnership, the Medicines Optimisation function delivers evidence‑based, high quality, safe and cost‑effective medicines and medical devices across the partnership. The Medicines Optimisation team reports to the Chief Pharmacist, the CCPL and the Deputy Place‑Based Lead and works with GP practices to improve prescribing and reduce health inequalities.
Key responsibilities
* Develop and deliver medicines optimisation plans for GP practices within a cluster to ensure safe, effective and cost‑effective prescribing.
* Build strong relationships with GP practices and other prescribers to influence prescribing behaviour and support practice prescribing leads.
* Provide pharmaceutical expertise to promote evidence‑based prescribing, improve patient outcomes and maintain a financially sustainable system.
* Support prescribers to manage prescribing budgets and work with Medicines Optimisation Pharmacy Technicians on joint projects.
* Analyse prescribing data (ePACT) and prioritise areas of improvement to support quality, safety and cost‑effective decisions.
* Participate in internal and external working groups and projects to provide analytical advice and expertise.
* Support training, development and recruitment activity across the place‑based team and wider function.
* Communicate complex medicine related information to GPs, practice teams, patients and carers using influencing and negotiating skills.
* Provide high quality patient education on medicine use, including presentations to patient groups and the Patient and Public Advisory Group.
* Support development of standard operating procedures, policies and guidelines for the medicines optimisation team.
Location and travel
Post location: Tameside locality within Greater Manchester ICB. Travel between GP practices may be required.
Qualifications and experience
While specific qualifications are not listed, candidates should have a strong understanding of medicines optimisation, prescribing practice and data analysis, and the ability to influence and support GP practice teams.
