The Role: We are currently modernising our HR and Payroll operations via WorkBee (Dayforce). We're seeking an inspirational leader to head our Payroll & Pensions function and steer Phase 2 of this transformation, which involves transitioning an additional 6,000 employees onto the platform. Working with the project team and sponsor, you will help shape the future payroll and pensions operating model. Supported by an internal Payroll SME, you will ensure accurate, compliant service delivery to a diverse workforce while fostering a culture of excellence and accountability. This is a prime opportunity for a leader who balances operational expertise with strategic change. Key Responsibilities Transformation Leadership: Lead Phase 2 of the WorkBee (Dayforce) rollout for 6,000 employees, partnering with the CFO and project teams to design and embed the future operating model and standardised processes. Strategic Oversight: Develop and execute a payroll and pensions strategy that aligns with organisational goals, driving continuous improvement across systems, controls, and customer-focused service delivery. Operational Excellence: Ensure accurate, timely, and compliant payroll and pension services for a diverse workforce, overseeing HMRC compliance, GDPR, audit readiness, and complex escalations. Team Leadership: Lead, coach, and develop a multi-skilled team, fostering a culture of accountability, innovation, and high performance through periods of significant organisational change. Service & Stakeholders: Champion employee experience by establishing robust KPIs and building strong collaborative relationships with HR, Finance, and operational leaders to ensure service excellence. Risk & Financial Management: Maintain rigorous financial controls and mitigate operational risks while managing departmental budgeting, forecasting, and third-party provider relationships. What You'll Bring: Significant experience leading payroll and pensions operations within large, complex organisations, with a proven track record of managing diverse workforces and high-performing teams. Expert in leading large-scale payroll migrations and system implementations (preferably Dayforce), with the ability to manage complex onboarding and drive digital adoption Comprehensive understanding of UK payroll legislation, HMRC requirements, and pensions compliance, supported by strong analytical and decision-making skills. A collaborative leader who can build strong relationships with HR, Finance, and IT stakeholders while navigating ambiguity and organisational change. A dedicated focus on accuracy, robust financial governance, and a customer-first mindset to drive continuous service improvement. Ideally, CIPP qualified (or equivalent) with an inspirational leadership style rooted in integrity, resilience, and a passion for innovation.
