Role/Job Title: Solution Architect Control Centre Tower (SysOps & Markets) Work Location: Wokingham (Onsite) The Role The Solution Architect for the Control Centre Tower within SysOps & Markets is responsible for designing robust, scalable, and secure solutions that support the operational and market systems of the organisation. This role collaborates closely with business stakeholders, technical teams, and system operators to ensure solutions align with business objectives, architectural standards, and industry best practices. Key Responsibilities Technical Expertise & Capabilities Operational Technology (OT) Expertise Deep knowledge of Industrial Control Systems (ICS), SCADA, and other OT components used in the electricity industry. Cybersecurity Experience implementing cybersecurity controls for OT environments, including network segmentation, firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, and compliance with relevant standards. Integration Skills Experience integrating OT systems with enterprise IT systems to enable secure data flow, operational visibility, and analytics. Architecture & Frameworks Familiarity with enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF. Networking Strong understanding of network protocols and technologies including TCP/IP, DNS, BGP, VPNs, and firewalls. On-Prem Hosting & Platforms Hands-on experience with on-prem virtualization technologies (e.g., VMWare ESXi). Experience working with Red Hat Linux, including bare-metal deployments. Integration & Platform Technologies Knowledge of common integration techniques and middleware solutions. Cloud Technologies Practical experience with public cloud platforms (preferably Microsoft Azure) and associated networking and platform services. Microservices & Containerization Experience designing solutions based on microservices architectures. Knowledge of Kubernetes for managing distributed workloads; familiarity with Rancher is a plus. CI/CD & GitOps Understanding of CI/CD practices and GitOps methodologies for automated deployments and environment management. Monitoring & Observability Experience with monitoring and logging tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Syslog. Emerging Technologies Awareness of IoT, AI, and edge computing technologies, and their use cases in optimising operational processes. Industry Tooling Knowledge Experience with Powertech DSA tools. Knowledge of data historian platforms such as eDNA. Responsibilities & Accountability Collaborate with business stakeholders to understand functional and non-functional requirements and translate them into detailed solution designs. Design end-to-end architectural solutions that integrate OT and IT systems, ensuring security, scalability, and operational continuity. Support the development and evolution of NESOs architectural standards, design patterns, and governance processes. Ensure solutions align with organisational technology strategy, compliance requirements, and industry best practices. Conduct technical assessments, risk evaluations, and impact analyses for proposed changes or new initiatives. Provide architectural leadership and guidance to engineering, development, and operations teams throughout the delivery lifecycle. Participate in vendor evaluations, technology assessments, and proof-of-concept initiatives. Your Profile Extensive experience as a Solution Architect within large and complex organisational environments. Proven experience applying standard architectures, patterns, and design principles to solution development. Background in the Energy or Utilities sector is highly desirable. Experience working with or exposure to System Operators such as ESO, DNOs, or TOs. Hands-on experience with power systems technologies including SCADA/EMS/ADMS and IT/OT integrations for electrical utilities. Strong understanding of industry-standard communication and interoperability protocols such as IEC101, IEC104, IEC 870-5, and ICCP/TASE.2.
