Clinical Engineer
Location: Moorfields Eye Hospital, London.
Job Overview
The Electro-Biomedical Department (EBME) is responsible for delivering complete medical equipment management on behalf of the Trust to City Road and all Moorfields network sites. The Clinical Engineer will complement the existing EBME team in managing, servicing, and repairing all Trust medical equipment, ensuring safety, reliability and compliance.
Main Responsibilities
* Attend to equipment breakdowns logged by the Trust intranet or phone.
* Carry out routine preventive maintenance (PPM) of a range of medical equipment, including specialised ophthalmic equipment, in line with manufacturers’ recommendations.
* Perform asset verification and equipment evaluation to support the asset replacement program.
* Meet the agreed site‑based Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
* Coordinate with third‑party suppliers for service and support in line with contract obligations.
* Investigate root causes of clinical or adverse incidents locally.
* Execute recall actions or safety enhancements communicated by manufacturers or the National Safety Alert Broadcast System.
* Provide technical expertise relating to medical devices and their environment, liaising with the MHRA and other agencies.
* Work within the department ISO 9001 Quality Management System (QMS) and support its implementation and maintenance.

Person Specification
Education and Qualification
* Undergraduate Degree in Engineering or Computing.
* Registration as Clinical Technologist (or working toward).
Experience
Essential Criteria
* Experience of test procedures used to verify performance of medical equipment.
* Experience working under a Quality Management System.
* Competent to plan and carry out servicing, including electrical safety testing, on a range of medical equipment.
* Experience managing and prioritising own workload and meeting deadlines.
Desirable Criteria
* Specialist experience in ophthalmic medical equipment.
* Good experience of medical devices networking and connectivity.
Knowledge
Essential Criteria
* Knowledge of test procedures used to verify safety and performance of specialist ophthalmic medical equipment.
* Extensive knowledge of medical equipment databases.
* Competency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
* Good knowledge of medical devices networking and connectivity.
Desirable Criteria
* Knowledge of medical devices standards and legislation.
Skills and Abilities
Essential Criteria
* Good understanding of scientific and engineering technologies used in medical equipment.
* Ability to diagnose complex faults.
* Capacity for repetitive equipment testing and working in awkward positions numerous times each day.
* Effective communication with a broad range of people.
