About The Role

Applications are invited to the role of graduate Senior Research Technician with a background in biochemistry or biological sciences.

About The Group/Team

You will provide core technical assistance to help characterise bacterial cellulose fibres in the research group of Professor David Roper in the School of Life Sciences, University of Warwick under the direct supervision and report to a senior laboratory researcher.

The role will be supporting the research project to alter, characterise and understand changes in biofilm/SCOBYs created by Komagateibacter rhaeticus. This is an ambitious research multi-organisation research project, aiming to produce customisable bacterial cellulose using synthetic biology and biomaterial characterisation.

You will be using techniques encompassing a wide-ranging area including molecular genetics, molecular biology and chemical modification. You will also contribute to sample preparation in support of more complex experiments including RNA-seq and biomaterial characterisation. A proactive attitude to work in, develop, contribute and take responsibility in this multi-partner project is a requirement for this role.

About You

You should have laboratory-based research bachelor’s level degree or equivalent laboratory experience in a relevant subject area (biochemistry, biological sciences, or similar).

You should have good organizational skills and high attention to detail. You should be able to work well both as part of a team and independently.

Expertise in molecular biology, biomaterial post-processing and molecular genetics is desirable.

Recruitment to this post will be subject to security clearance. We have been advised by the funder that to gain the high level of security clearance needed you must be a UK national or have resided in the UK for the past 5 years. We are therefore we are only able to accept applications from UK nationals or individuals who have resided in the UK for the past 5 years.

In addition, please note that the post holder must be able to start in the role by 1st October 2025 date due to funding requirements.

About The Department

You will be based in the laboratory of Professor David Roper. The lab is located in the new Interdisciplinary Biosciences Building at the School of Life Sciences, University of Warwick, a collaborative environment with world class facilities for molecular microbiology.
