Hywel Dda University Health Board is the planner and provider of NHS healthcare services for people in Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and surrounding areas. We are looking to recruit a motivated Consultant in Acute Medicine to join a dynamic general medicine service within the Health Board, supporting the Welsh Government’s vision for NHS Wales. The appointment will join the team of established medical consultants across Pembrokeshire with opportunities to develop/maintain a specialist interest.
Main duties
* Provide, with consultant colleagues, a service in General Medicine and support the development of a sub-specialty interest for the hospital and community, with responsibility for prevention, diagnosis and treatment of illness.
* Work with senior colleagues to ensure high-quality healthcare delivery and supervision as required by professional standards.
* Engage in discussions around working pattern and contribute to initial job planning.
Qualifications
Essential
* Full GMC Registration and Licence to Practice
* On Specialist Register with GMC or CCT due within 6 months of interview date
* Or Portfolio Pathway (CESR) or equivalent European qualifications for Specialist Registration
* MRCP
* Valid Certified Advanced Life Support Skills
Desirable
* Appropriate Higher Degree (e.g., MD, PhD, MSc) or equivalent
Clinical Experience
* Broad-based experience in Acute General Medicine
* Knowledge of UK hospital systems (or equivalent)
* Career CPD knowledge and involvement
* Expertise in Acute General Medicine
Desirable
* Experience of NHS
* Wider experience, research and training in providing subspecialty service
* Additional clinical qualifications
Clinical Governance
* Essential: Evidence of participation in clinical audit and understanding of the role of audit in improving medical practice
* Desirable: Knowledge of annual job planning/appraisal process
Research
* Essential: Experience and knowledge of critical appraisal of evidence to improve clinical outcomes
* Desirable: Research degree
Teaching
* Essential: Evidence of organizing programmes and teaching medical students and resident doctors
* Desirable: Organisation of further teaching programmes in medical education; Training the Trainers experience
Management
* Essential: Knowledge of the management and structure of the NHS
* Desirable: Evidence of management training
