We have an opportunity for a newly created role, as a Ventilation Engineer in our UK&E Health team, you'll play a vital part in ensuring safe, compliant, and efficient ventilation systems across the Great Western Hospital site - creating conditions that directly impact patient care, colleague wellbeing, and the wider community.
You’ll help deliver a professional and trusted service on a broad mix of HVAC and mechanical systems. Your work will protect critical environments, support clinical teams, and contribute to a safe and effective hospital estate that people rely on every day.
What you'll do as a Ventilation Engineer
You’ll be entrusted to:
* Carry out fault finding, repairs, and maintenance across ventilation systems within both reactive and planned environments.
* Review room data, design information, and commissioning documentation to ensure accurate ventilation requirements, maintaining and updating spreadsheets where needed.
* Complete room balancing using traverse checking methods and equipment such as bolometers and dampers.
* Support the management and operation of ventilation and LEV (Local Exhaust Ventilation) systems in line with HTM03-01.
* Work toward becoming the Authorised Person (Ventilation) and attend ventilation meetings with the client.
* Deliver mechanical ductwork repairs and support AHU (Air Handling Unit) repairs alongside electrical engineers.
* Carry out proactive inspections and remedial repairs across mechanical, electrical, heating, plumbing, and ventilation installations.
* Maintain high-quality workmanship aligned to safety requirements, building codes, and Serco standards.
* Record all maintenance activities accurately within Serco Management Systems.
* Work both independently and as part of a wider team to ensure an effective and responsive service.
* Uphold QHSE requirements, report hazards, and maintain a safe working environment.
* Undertake other reasonable tasks as requested by line management.
Does this sound like you?
* NVQ Level 3 in a relevant mechanical engineering discipline, plus C&G in Heating, Ventilation and Refrigeration.
* Proven experience as an M&E maintenance engineer, ideally within building services or HVAC environments.
* A proactive approach, with the ability to manage a varied workload and support colleagues when needed.
* Experience in ventilation systems, with knowledge of HTM03-01 considered highly desirable.
