Speciality Doctor in Forensic Psychiatry
Job Overview
The post holder will be responsible for providing psychiatric input for the inpatients resident at Ty Llewelyn medium secure unit. All referrals to the unit are managed by a single point of access and a weekly planning meeting. The post holder will provide specialist psychiatric assessment, treatment and basic medical support for those individuals in Ty Llewelyn Medium Secure Unit.
The post holder will undertake reports as required for the Ministry of Justice, Mental Health Act Review Tribunals, as well as CTP and ASR reports. The post holder will be based with Ty Llewelyn and work with the ward and service managers to ensure clinical leadership of the multi-disciplinary team. Clinical supervision of the team and training of team members in clinical matters are also expected.
Compliance with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010, and undertaking responsibilities under that Measure, are mandatory. The post may at times attract a junior doctor, depending on availability in the training rota. Routine 136 assessments do not fall within the post holder’s responsibilities. The post holder will undertake responsibilities under the Mental Health Act (1983) as a section 12/2 approved doctor where authorised. Under the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 responsibilities continue to apply.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide psychiatric assessment, treatment, and management for inpatients in Ty Llewelyn.
* Deliver day‑to‑day medical support for inpatients.
* Complete Ministry of Justice and Mental Health Tribunal reports.
* Assume clinical leadership of the multidisciplinary team.
* Provide clinical supervision and training to team members.
* Comply with the Mental Health (Wales) Measure 2010 and associated duties.
Qualifications
Essential Criteria
* Full registration with the General Medical Council.
* Minimum of four years of postgraduate training in the UK or equivalent EEA training, with at least two years in the relevant specialty.
Desirable Criteria
* MRCPsych or equivalent qualification.
* Section 12(2) approval.
* Postgraduate qualifications.
