We are looking for a Lighting Technician to join our busy technical team. Working under the Head of Department and Deputy across the Festival and Minerva Theatres and other performance spaces as required, you will provide first class lighting programming, team management and leadership. You will provide first-class support to visiting lighting designers and creative staff and work closely with the senior lighting team, to include rigging, operation, maintenance and construction skills. The Production and Technical department is an integral part of CFT, responsible for realising all shows and events across the site throughout the year. There is a small full-time team across the Lighting, Sound, Stage and Costume disciplines, augmented by up to 60 additional staff including Wardrobe, WHAM and Props teams who are recruited seasonally as required by the productions. The department ensures that productions created at CFT between April and November, as well as the touring productions hosted over the winter months, are created and run efficiently and effectively across our two modern, well-equipped theatres and other spaces on site. CFT produces a varied mixture of drama, musicals and world premieres, and the team get the opportunity to work with the country's leading creative artists. Many of CFT's productions transfer to London or tour nationally and internationally. Throughout the year, CFT also hosts a number of other events and activities with which the department is fully engaged. The Lighting Technician is a post in the lighting team working under the Head of Department and Deputy across the Festival and Minerva Theatres and other performance spaces as required, providing first class lighting programming, team management and leadership. The Lighting Technician is an employee of Chichester Festival Theatre. Job Purpose You will provide first-class support to visiting lighting designers and creative staff and work closely with the senior lighting team, to include rigging, operation, maintenance and construction skills. Key Responsibilities Rig, check, and focus lighting and video equipment and set up equipment for fitups, rehearsals, changeovers and performances Operate lighting equipment for rehearsals and performances as required Construct electrical and mechanical lighting effects and props as required using individual, creative and technical skills, in conjunction with other departments where appropriate Write up and maintain clear and concise notes of all performance-related duties enabling other staff to cover without prior knowledge of the production. All these notes should be kept up to date and a copy held with the Head of Lighting Receive, collect and load/off-load lighting and ancillary equipment as required. Collect and return equipment from and to storage areas. Store equipment in an organised manner Ensure that the required pyrotechnic devices as supplied are correctly connected. Initiate use of pyrotechnic devices on cue during performance following training or instruction Ensure production lighting is correctly set up according to the creative requirements of the lighting designer/director Carry out first-line maintenance of all production lighting, video and related equipment, in accordance with manufacturers' recommendations and training received Carry out first-line maintenance of non-production lighting within, or related to, the theatres, ie house, working, side/rear stage lighting, or similar Ensure that lighting is deployed in a clean, orderly and tidy condition; take appropriate care of all items and ensure that all lighting workshops, control rooms and lighting areas are kept clean and tidy Attend rehearsals and public performances and events as required Connect power to equipment used on stage or in rehearsal rooms for productions and rehearsals Take a proactive and supportive approach to working with apprentices and junior staff members Undertake training as required; instructing others in the use of technical equipment When required, appear on stage in appropriate clothes or costume to carry out specific duties Ensure that all working and storage areas are kept safe and tidy Wear protective clothing and footwear when required Ensure that equipment is left in a safe and secure condition at the end of each performance. Ensure a safe working environment is maintained in technical areas and other areas Assist with Get-ins, Fit-ups & Get-outs Undertake Portable Appliance Testing further to CFT training as required Work collaboratively to reach the relevant Theatre Green Book standard benchmark on productions and be sustainably minded in all decisions
