The Adult Pathway are offering an exciting opportunity for an Inpatient Consultant Adult Psychiatrist to join the team based on Brocton Ward, St George’s hospital, Stafford
The pathway provides comprehensive mental health services to the South Staffordshire localities, and you will be pivotal in providing clinical leadership to the team as part of a collective leadership structure and providing support and supervision to Specialty Doctor.
The service is supported by Consultant Nurses, Advanced Nurse Practitioners, Non Medical Prescribers and trainees. You will manage the Specialty Doctor but this is supported by the close working relationships between the Operational Manager and Consultant Psychiatrist. Clinical supervision of the Specialty Doctor will remain with the Consultant Psychiatrist.
Brocton Ward which is a 20 bedded Adult Acute Admissions ward. 6 of these beds are allocated for the MOD and you will also be the consultant psychiatrist. Adjacent is Chebsey Ward and Milford ward, which are also adult acute admissions ward as well as Norbury ward which is a psychiatric intensive care unit. All wards work closely together and as part of the integrated approach taken across the inpatient provision.
A job plan will be agreed after appointment and will follow the Mental Health Directorate’s commitment to 7.5 Programmed Activities (PAs) for Direct Clinical Care (DCC) and 2.5 Supporting Professional Activities (SPA) per 10 PA job plan.
Main duties of the job
You will be the Lead ECT Consultant who along with the Lead ECT nurse and the Lead Consultant Anaesthetist to advise on appropriate treatment facilities, is responsible for development and the updating of the ECT policy and training and supervision of medical staff.
As part of this role, you will:
* Advise on appropriate treatment protocols for individual patients based on established ECTAS Guidelines.
* Advise the ECT team on the suitability of referrals to the service.
* Consultant input into inpatient care and treatment, with the facility for rapid assessment of admitted patients, daily review of patients and timely discharge in liaison with General Practitioners, community pathways and other community support services.
* Training and supervision is provided in accordance with the guidance set out by RCPsych for doctors involved in the administration of ECT.
* Competency to perform ECT is determined by the ECT Lead Consultant.
