Job Overview
The Senior Coordinator provides authoritative technical and professional support to the team leader in the operational management, procurement and efficient delivery of safe education transport. This includes supporting the professional development of a team of 8 education transport co‑ordinators and 200 passenger assistants, monitoring transport suppliers, and processing transport requests on behalf of young people, including those with SEND. The role oversees the planning, procurement and coordination of passenger transport, ensuring services are safe, efficient, sustainable and compliant with statutory regulations.
Key Responsibilities
* Supervise and support the team responsible for efficient processing and coordination of education transport requests.
* Design, specify, and procure safe, cost‑effective and efficient transport solutions in line with legislation and council policy.
* Take lead responsibility for safe day‑to‑day operations, liaising with commissioners, parents, schools, passenger assistants, transport suppliers and other agencies.
* Sign off risk assessments and manage foreseeable risks for passengers.
* Devise creative travel plans to meet the needs of those with challenging requirements, ensuring safety, sustainability and cost‑effectiveness.
* Ensure value for money and compliance with financial regulations through effective procurement, tender specification and contract management.
* Develop business processes, maintain transport databases and provide reliable service delivery and accurate management information.
* Support recruitment and training of passenger assistants, authorise timesheets and enforce compliance with absence and other procedures.
* Maintain effective relationships with suppliers and volunteers, process orders and invoices, and produce management information.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree level academic achievement or equivalent workplace experience.
* Proven competence leading an administrative team in a demanding, busy office environment.
* Experience in passenger transport, logistics or customer services.
* Detailed knowledge of education transport statutory guidance, health and safety, and good operational practice, including challenges faced by travelers with SEND.
* Demonstrated empathy for the transport needs of young people, including those with SEND, and the impact on families.
* Knowledge of good procurement practice and contract management; ability to negotiate with operators on performance issues.

Job Requirements
* Flexible working hours, covering 07:30 to 18:00.
