Our Pharmacy Technicians play a pivotal role in contributing to the provision of safe and effective pharmacy services. Key Responsibilities
* Medication management: queries and medicines reconciliation in line with practice protocols and standard operating procedures to improve efficiency and effectiveness of prescriptions and repeat prescriptions.
* Carry out housekeeping in patient records (e.g., dose optimisation and medicines synchronisation).
* Respond to patient queries (face to face and over the phone); refer complex problems to the pharmacist as appropriate.
* Participate in patient reviews and update patient records via clinics in the practice, domiciliary visits, and in nursing/residential care homes.
* Use consultation skills to work with patients to support effective medicine use; check the accuracy of medicines for prescriptions.
* Participate in shared care protocols and liaise with pharmacists for complex patients; discuss statin initiation/dose review.
* Follow local pathways to process simple pathology results, referring to the pharmacist when appropriate; process drug alerts (e.g., MHRA/CAS alerts).
* Monitor high-risk drugs; discuss prediabetes diet and referral to prevention programmes; review AccuRx Floreys and update regime reviews.
* Provide advice and information to GPs, staff and patients to improve prescribing safety, quality, cost-effectiveness and appropriate use of medicines to achieve the best patient outcomes.
* Assist in monitoring and managing prescribing budgets and prepare evidence-based resources for cost-effective prescribing.
* Contribute to Quality Improvement measures (including the Quality and Outcomes Framework and enhanced services) and national prescribing policies within the Primary Care Network.
* Support a safe working environment in line with Health & Safety and Infection Control policies; protect patient confidentiality and information; maintain CPD requirements.
* Supervise and train other pharmacy staff (e.g., pre-registration pharmacy technicians); build relationships with other pharmacy technicians, pharmacists, and healthcare professionals across primary care, community pharmacy and social care settings.

Qualifications Essential
* Professional registration with the GPhC
* BTEC/NVQ level 3 or equivalent in pharmaceutical sciences
* Evidence of recent and relevant Continuing Professional Development
* Experience of working as a qualified, registered pharmacy technician in primary care, community or hospital pharmacy
* Experience of working with clinicians and multidisciplinary/multiagency work
* Experience of facilitating change to improve clinical practice
Desirable
* Experience of delivering training sessions to varied groups

* Data collection, analysis and interpretation; proficient with databases/IT tools
* Empathy in communicating with patients and carers; understanding of medicines management across care settings
* Familiarity with national/local policies impacting primary care prescribing
