Freelance Project Manager - Water Sector
💰 Rate: £450-£550/day (Inside IR35)
📍 Location: South East England (Hybrid working depending on project)
🕒 Contract Length: Initial 12 months, potential for extension
We are seeking an experienced Project Manager to oversee the delivery of complex water and wastewater infrastructure projects as part of a long-term framework agreement valued at £3.1bn. You'll manage resources, ensure safe and high-quality project execution, and support stakeholder engagement across all levels to meet key delivery milestones and maximise customer satisfaction.
This freelance opportunity will see you working across either a portfolio of smaller projects or a major single scheme, depending on scope and complexity.
Key Responsibilities
Manage and support project teams to achieve delivery goals and maintain high morale.
Ensure compliance with health & safety, quality, environmental, and risk management standards.
Monitor performance against financial and programme targets and implement corrective actions as required.
Work collaboratively with design, delivery, and client teams to drive successful project outcomes.
Oversee procurement and resource planning for equipment, services, and subcontractors.
Lead and promote an inclusive, diverse and supportive team environment.
Ensure all project documentation and compliance records are up to date and auditable.
Provide clear and effective communication to clients and stakeholders at all levels.
Champion best practices in health, safety, and wellbeing.

You'll be delivering works under a major long-term infrastructure framework in the South East, focusing on water supply and wastewater treatment upgrades. Projects include capacity increases, safety improvements, water recycling, and resilience enhancements.

Skills & Experience Required
Strong track record of project delivery in the Water sector or similar infrastructure environments.
Proven leadership and mentoring experience in a dynamic, multi-disciplinary environment.
Able to plan effectively and adjust in fast-paced settings.
Confident communicator across all organisational levels.
Excellent written and verbal communication.
Understanding of current HSE legislation and environmental standards.
Competent in construction and project management software.
Degree or equivalent in construction, engineering or related field preferred.
Full UK driving licence.
