We are currently seeking an experienced Offshore Fibre Optic Technician to join our offshore operations team on a long-term contract basis. This role is critical to the installation, testing, maintenance, and repair of fibre optic systems on offshore platforms and vessels. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting OTDR testing, ensuring data integrity, and supporting communication systems in harsh marine environments.
Key Responsibilities:
* Perform OTDR (Optical Time-Domain Reflectometer) testing and fault-finding on subsea and topside fibre optic cables.
* Install, splice, and terminate fibre optic cables to industry standards.
* Conduct system integrity checks and report on cable performance.
* Maintain accurate test records and produce comprehensive test reports.
* Work in compliance with offshore safety and technical standards.
* Collaborate with engineering and subsea teams during mobilisation, installation, and demobilisation phases.
* Act as Slinger Banksman during lifting operations, ensuring all load-handling activities are safe and efficient.
* Assist in the maintenance and logistics of fibre optic tools and test equipment.
Essential Qualifications & Experience:
* Proven offshore experience in fibre optic cable installation and testing.
* City & Guilds Level 2 in Fibre Optic Cabling or equivalent.
* Valid GWO Slinger Banksman certification.
* Strong understanding of OTDR principles and hands-on experience with fibre test equipment (e.g., EXFO, Yokogawa, Viavi).
* Ability to work independently in offshore environments and as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
* Excellent fault-finding and documentation skills.
Certifications (Must Be Current):
* BOSIET / GWO
* Offshore Medical (OGUK or equivalent)
* GWO Slinger Banksman
* City & Guilds Level 2 in Fibre Optics
* Working at Height & Manual Handling (preferable)
