Overview
The role is responsible for providing a highly visible presence, foot patrolling in Penzance Town Centre and surrounding areas. The role liaises closely with the police, and provides advice, support and assurance to businesses, shoppers, and residents. The role works closely with organisations who provide support for members of the community with complex and vulnerable needs, including rough sleepers and street drinkers, building relationships with the individuals themselves, providing a balance of support and, where necessary, enforcement. The role will deliver a high quality ASB service through the use of prevention and enforcement tools. The purpose of this post is to tackle a range of anti-social behaviour in adults and young people, covering all housing tenures, in neighbourhoods and in community-based hotspots, through being solution focused and working in partnership with all relevant agencies. This is a public/customer-facing role, where the statutory English language requirement for public sector workers applies. This position will be subject to an enhanced criminal record disclosure check.
Responsibilities
* To provide high visibility foot patrols in Penzance Town Centre and surrounding areas/neighbourhoods.
* To support those in the community giving practicable advice and support to strengthen resolution with community based ASB.
* To be the lead officer in case building and pulling partner agencies together, attempting to resolve incidents of isolated or wider community based ASB.
* To manage a caseload relating to anti-social behaviour within a multi-disciplinary partnership Community Safety Team.
* To gather evidence and prepare paperwork for court, attending court to present cases as necessary.
* To work within and across communities, in collaboration and partnership with a diverse range of statutory and non-statutory agencies, services and teams to tackle anti-social behaviour.
* To work closely with Police, the local businesses and communities and key partner agencies, drawing upon expertise and support to tackle anti-social behaviour including involvement in frontline operations and other intervention types that directly address community concerns in relation to anti-social behaviour.
Qualifications and requirements
* Being a non-confrontational role, the role holder needs to be calm, measured, confident, and able to diffuse potentially challenging situations.
* Flexibility, resilience and organisational skills are essential for the role along with a good general level of education.
* Demonstrate good knowledge of ASB legislation and experience of partnership working amongst statutory and non statutory agencies.
* Ability to work unsupervised and prioritise own workload through self-organisation.
* Good experience of conflict management through use of communication and situational management.
* Demonstrate excellent experience of working as part of a team preferably in the relevant functional area.
* Ability to make impartial decisions based on evidence.
* Due to the foot patrolling aspect, the role holder will need to be physically fit and healthy and prepared to patrol in all weather conditions. A full valid driving licence and access to a vehicle is essential.
Working pattern and location
The role is a 12 month rolling contract, dependent on funding which is agreed annually. 37 hours per week, based at the Safe & Well Hub (John Daniel Centre) in Penzance with opportunities to work from home at times. There is an expectation for some weekend and evening working.
