Overview
Job title: Warehouse Shift Manager. Location: Heywood. Employment type: Full-time, Secondment. Salary: £38 400.00 Mid: £48 000.00.
Are you a dynamic leader with a keen eye for detail and a passion for optimising warehouse operations? You will manage a shift, lead a team of operatives, and drive efficiency and productivity to achieve daily workload and predefined targets while complying with Health & Safety, Employment Law, EU and company hygiene standards.
Responsibilities
* Manage and motivate the Warehouse Shift Team to achieve daily output objectives and shift KPIs.
* Plan and manage the adjacent shift to ensure units per man hour (UPMH) meet or exceed budgeted levels.
* Establish a clear handover from the previous shift; document issues, achievements, productivity, and accuracy.
* Walk the warehouse with the Assistant Operations Shift Manager to ensure hygiene and tidiness to required standards.
* Ensure staff are trained and competent; maintain a training matrix and properly sign and file all documentation.
* Carry out probation reviews/assessments/appraisals as required.
* Proactively seek solutions to operational problems and implement changes where appropriate.
* Deputise for Assistant Operations Managers when required.
Employee Resources & Planning
* Ensure adequate resources to meet shift KPIs in terms of quality and quantity.
* Plan and control labour usage to meet budget productivity levels and financial spend.
* Identify and implement improvement plans to increase utilisation and productivity.
* Plan and monitor break times in line with product arrivals and planned departures.
* Prepare for adjacent shifts, tomorrow’s shift, and next week’s shift, considering forecast/actual volumes, holidays, and sick leave.
* Address reasonable requests from Operations and/or General Manager.
Communication
* Conduct daily briefings on requirements and performance updates.
* Maintain open two-way communication between staff and shift management; record attendance and brief according to templates.
* Complete Daily Shift Management Reports for review with the Assistant Operations Managers.
* Provide feedback to internal customers (e.g., customer services, field managers).
* Work in a multi-temperature food storage environment.
Employment Practices
* Adhere to all company policies and applicable legislation.
* Manage staff in line with MBUK values.
* Handle absence management and RTW interviews; escalate as required.
* Arrange and complete disciplinary and grievance matters; ensure compliance with Working Time Directive.
Health and Safety
* Collaborate with the Health & Safety Team to ensure compliance with Health & Safety legislation.
* Meet Health and Safety KPIs and uphold clean-as-you-go/QIP/AIB standards.
Customer Service
* Meet Customer Service requirements in full and ensure accuracy and timely completion of operational data with auditable sources.
* Meet KPIs, including the agreed credit target with McDonald’s.
Qualifications
* Previous management experience in a similar FMCG operation.
* Intermediate proficiency with MS computer packages.
* Strong performance management skills.
* Experience conducting interviews.
* Experience managing within a union environment (Desirable).
* Formal management skills, knowledge of employment law and HR processes (Desirable).
