Deputy Principal Cardiac Physiologist (Echo Educator)
Job Summary: It is a fantastic opportunity for current 8a or experienced band 7 Cardiac Physiologist to further their career at St Barts Health NHS Trust. We are seeking an experienced Echo Educator (18 hours per week) to lead the development of echocardiography training for critical care. The role offers the chance to shape cardiac ultrasound education by delivering high-quality teaching, mentoring junior staff, and supporting structured training programmes.
Main duties of the job
* Part‑time (18 hours) Deputy Principal Cardiac Physiologist Practice Educator for 12 months, working with Principal Cardiac Physiologists to provide training and education for critical care.
* Function independently as an expert physiologist in echocardiography, including point‑of‑care imaging.
* Collaborate with service leads for echo, cardiac rhythm management and non‑invasive cardiology.
* Maintain clinical skills, including occasional work at the Barts Heart Centre.
* Teach and train clinicians, registrars and nurses to perform echocardiography in the critical care unit.
* Engage in clinical activities for inpatient referrals and weekend rotational inpatient echo cover.

Person Specification
Experience
* Experience specialist level with relevant accreditations (BSE or European equivalent)
* Experience leading and training staff and clinicians
* Experience of echo education
* Experience in planning and developing specialist services, contributing toward local and national policies
Desirable Experience
* Experience in developing service plans, business cases and cost improvement plans
* Evidence of communicating specialist information to key stakeholders, including clinicians
Essential Skills
* Day‑to‑day frontline operational management
* Ability to manage and lead a team in emergency situations
* Comprehensive leadership and management abilities
Desirable Skills
* Fully competent in Echo and other cardiac diagnostic tests
Essential Knowledge
* Expert theoretical and practical knowledge in echocardiography

Essential Qualifications
* BSE/ESC accreditation
* BSc Clinical Physiology (or equivalent)
