Job Title: Financial Controller
Location: UK - Diss, Norfolk
Salary: £70,000 - £80,000 per year

Role Overview:
Novum Structures UK Ltd is looking for a proactive and detail-driven Financial Controller to take ownership of day-to-day financial operations across the UK and its international branches/entities, including Finland and France. This is a hands-on role that requires active involvement in everything from transactional accounting to strategic planning. The successful candidate will work closely with the Finance Director, acting as a trusted partner in delivering accurate financial insights, maintaining strong internal controls, and ensuring full compliance with regulatory requirements. This position offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact across all areas of finance, with direct responsibility for reporting, systems, and project support.
Key Responsibilities:
Financial Reporting & Analysis;
* Draft monthly financial reporting workbook and management report pack
* Prepare reconciled monthly intercompany and third-party debtor aging reports
* Maintain and reconcile the fixed asset register
* Perform account analysis and reconciliations (job costing, inventory, general ledger)
* Reconcile balance sheet codes monthly
* Lead audit fieldwork and prepare working papers for the annual financial audit
* Provide graphical analysis and interpretation of financial data to Finance Director
Project Accounting & Cost Control;
* Act as project accountant on large projects
* Monitor and design systems for tracking and recording project costs
* Perform cost analysis and reporting
* Work with commercial managers to ensure accurate project data
* Lead quarterly stock takes at company premises and third-party storage locations
* Assist with inventory accuracy, cost, and level monitoring
Compliance & Governance;
* Ensure internal controls are effective to safeguard assets and prevent fraud
* Ensure compliance with IFRS / UK GAAP and all relevant accounting standards
* Review VAT treatment and recommend improvements to optimize Novum's position
* Support FD with tax planning and compliance in overseas territories
Cashflow & Treasury;
* Maintain and update company cashflow forecasts (weekly and monthly)
* Draft cashflows for large projects
* Collate and report cash in by contract weekly to Finance Director and Commercial Director
* Monitor credit card receipts and cross-reference with expense claims and subsistence allowances
* Monitor compliance with bank covenants and submit financial data packs to the bank
Credit Control & Risk Management;
* Manage bad debt provision account and write off historical bad debts
* Evaluate and monitor creditworthiness of clients and suppliers
* Recommend credit limits for FD approval
* Establish systems for tracking income from application to payment
International Branch/Entity Oversight;
* Prepare recharge invoices from the Finnish branch to Head Office
* Perform Finnish branch bank reconciliations, journal postings (accruals, prepayments), and balance sheet reconciliations
* Submit VAT returns for NUK in France and assist with VAT returns for overseas subsidiaries
* Coordinate CIT and tax returns for overseas territories and posted workers
* Support Finance Director in ensuring tax compliance across all jurisdictions
Systems & Process Improvement;
* Ensure accounting systems are complete and accurately maintained
* Lead implementation and improvement of new ERP system
* Manage submission and approval of monthly timesheets in ERP
* Regularly review and update finance processes to align with best practices and regulatory changes
* Develop and maintain finance policies and procedures (accounting, treasury, credit, project costs)
Qualifications & Experience;
* ACA / ACCA / CIMA qualified (or equivalent)
* Proven experience in financial control, preferably in a multinational or project-based environment
* Strong understanding of IFRS / UK GAAP and international tax compliance
* Advanced knowledge of Microsoft packages
* Experience with ERP systems and financial reporting tools
* Excellent analytical, communication, and leadership skills
* Experience of working in Finance within the construction industry is desirable
