The Role
We are seeking to appoint a passionate, talented and rigorous practitioner to join our dedicated Maths department for 1 year fixed term maternity cover from April 2026 to April 2027.
The successful applicant will be an inspirational teacher who is experienced and confident teaching in Key Stages 3 and 4. Experience teaching A Level Mathematics or Further Mathematics experience is desirable but not essential. They will share the School's vision and the belief that all young people can achieve at high levels.
The foundation of all of our teaching at Hoe Valley School lies in the quality development of students' long-term memories, to make them more intelligent and improve the quality of their whole life. Within the Maths department we use self-testing, prior knowledge checks, regular modelling and a cyclical approach to topics to help build this, and resilience, within our students.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES (IN ADDITION TO THE TEACHERS’ STANDARDS)
Teaching and Learning
9. To teach Maths lessons to years 7-11 (and years 12-13 with previous experience teaching A-Level)
10. To contribute to the design of the curriculum to ensure it is exciting, relevant, challenging and personalised
11. To ensure that all students are making good or outstanding progress and that teaching and learning is of a high standard
12. To track and assess all students progress, with a focus on analysis and intervention of our most disadvantaged students
13. To contribute to the CPD program across the School and share best practice
14. To ensure Maths has a high profile across the School through offering vibrant and exciting learning opportunities
15. To ensure that resources are organised and available to promote a purposeful environment for teaching and learning to take place, integrating ICT where appropriate
16. To support and encourage attendance in additional Maths events such as UKMT and AMSP events
17. To deploy other adults effectively within the classroom, involving them, where appropriate, in the planning and management of student learning
Progress and Attainment
18. To ensure assessment, feedback and monitoring is SMART, accurate and clearly moves students’ learning on across all teachers within the faculty
19. To standardise marking with colleagues both within the School and with partner schools
20. To rigorously analyse student data to inform planning and intervention programmes
21. To lead and attend internal and external meetings as required
22. To feedback to students and parents / carers in line with the School policy
Behaviour and Safety
23. To collaborate closely with parents to ensure that they are aware of their child's progress, engaged in their development and in supporting them in their vision for the future
24. To ensure the safety of all students on and off site
25. To model and enforce excellent standards of behaviour within and beyond the faculty
26. To monitor students’ achievement, attendance, uniform, punctuality and behaviour and to respond promptly to issues in line with the school’s policies
School Improvement
27. To support the School’s marketing and recruitment plan through attending events, contributing to marketing materials and via frequent high quality interactions with feeder primary schools
28. To embody the School’s values both on and off site
29. To monitor allocated budgets and ensure value for money at all times
30. To coach and mentor colleagues as appropriate
